I send kudos to Marc and Elioflight for your excellent posts (#6 & #10), and tip my hat to you both. But stecoop, I still appreciate where you are coming from. In my realm of reality, nothing is more sacred that the separateion of church & state.
Chuckle8, the trouble with "Faux News" is that it doesn't work in speech nearly as well as in writing--/fo/ vs. /fawks/--not to mention that you can't tell if it's "faux" or "foe" (both work). I like it in writing, though, because it looks like it would be pronounced the same as "fox".
Yeah, and we'll continue getting gouged at the pump, and paying subsidies via taxes to Big Oil while the U.S. Military Industrial Terrorists continue stealing it from other countries overseas. What goddam suckers we all are.
The RR commission and OSHA have been sitting on their hands for years and done nothing about enforcing upgrades to make RR freight transport safer. From reading the news articles, it appears these RR derailments are due to human error rather than accidental spontaneous combustion.
As for trains being safer than pipelines, I think the jury is out on that. Having lived in TX where there are huge pipe highways running throughout the state, I have seen houses blown up because of a ruptured pipeline mostly due to corrosion. We have seen that with PG&E's pipelines in CA.
The XL pipeline will be transporting highly corrosive tarsands bitumen which is essentially liquid tar to TX for refinement. The pipeline has a 1% undetected flow rate meaning 9000 barrels of oil can be leaking from their pipeline and no one would know about it until either the oil bubbles to the surface or it contaminates the groundwater (perhaps both events) making residents and livestock sick or even killing them before someone finally investigates.
Global Warming is by far the biggest story in recorded history, and barely gets a mention by our so called news media!......a Carbon Baron apocalypse in the making!

There is a law of nature that far too many people are still not getting: If you get in Mother Natures face, she WILL slap you down. Work with Her to accomplish your goals, and She'll give you more than you asked for.
I have heard the argument that pipelines are safer than trains or trucks in transporting oil. We should not be transporting oil across the US at all. If we put our money and energy behind sustainable, safe energy there would be no need for pipelines or oil trains.
Privatisation is the stuff fascism is made of.

What occurred to me here is that I constantly hear the right winger theorcrats talking about gays going against nature while these so called conservatives constantly attack nature and try to bend nature's laws in order to fit their selfish wants. What they think is natural is of course the most unnatural.
Hey, I'm a rabbit too. Most people don't know the Chinese calendar also has a cycle of 10 years named for elements (metal, water, wood, fire, earth) crossed with yin and yang. I'm a wood rabbit, which makes it sound like I should have lots of kids, but no. Then again, it's "cut timber" (yin) as opposed to "growing wood" (yang). Thom is a wrought-metal rabbit.
Regarding PBS caller:
The Capitol Steps, noted the changes in their 2006 CD 'I'm so Indicted' song for PBS titled 'GOP-BS'. This was because GW put one of his tools in charge (can't remember his name) to head this left wing station.
Instead of saying "Fox so-called News" every time, Thom could use the more concise "Fakes News". I haven't seen or heard that anywhere.
One thing that tells me Lt. Gen. Boykin doesn't know what he's talking about is that he referred to "usurping the Constitution", which is a semantic impossibility. Powers and positions are usurped, meaning that they are appropriated illegitimately (the term derives from the Latin for "seize by use"). You could almost say that the Republican party has usurped the American flag, but a President usurping the Constitution has no meaning.
Just because it's a rare word, and therefore the mistake could snowball, I want to point out that it's "crèche", not "créche".
As a person who builds, among other items, (living room sized) nativity créche stalls, I have a stronger word than "arrogant."

And while naturally, I'd be upset if my work could not be displayed for some technical reason(s), the idea of behaving any way near like that woefully spiritually, as well as civically misinformed . . . would be as far removed as Bethlehem from New England or Louisiana. From everything I've learned from Sunday School to college theology courses, Jesus would've never behaved in such fashion, save for the money changers in the Temple and the contempt given to Mary Magdalen when she used perfume to bath his feet. He turned the tables both times; but literally just once.

Yes, we have been watching the effective takeover by the corporate state that began in the 1980s. They are now our government. The targets to date are those who are dramatically marginalized (the poor, etc.). We've been slowly, quietly transitioning into a third world labor force for years. By now, there's really nothing we can do about it.
Anyone want to try to define "human rights" today? Or who is deserving of those rights? The US didn't ratify the UN's Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and indeed, even US liberals today don't support the UDHR. This international agreement states (for example) that food and shelter are fundamental human rights, even for the jobless poor.Today's Americans disagree.
What would he want Texas for? Let them secede from the nation.
