  • The President is set to deliver his State of the Union address tonight - What will he talk about?   13 years 26 weeks ago

So by your definition, commerce is king. But I was not necessarily discussing the this and that of systems, I was referring more to mind games of control used by those who do.

I used capitalism and socialism to illustrate how language is used to obfuscate intention. It is the use of language which allows us to know the difference between apples and oranges. Perhaps this will explain what I'm getting at; in the terms of moneyism I find 'earned' to be the most ambiguous of terms, no genuine accounting for it, just a term of the usary set. A person makes a hundred million per for whatever he was born into or whatever aggressive win at all costs endeavor he engages and another person works into overtime at a place that is at best tolerable and makes $25 thousand per and yet the same word 'earned' is used to describe both. RIDICULOUS use of language and just what the hoity toity use to maintain their 'high society' hubris. As is, all things, relationships, feelings, etceteras must run through the acquisition of money, this is stupid, also ridiculous. What I'm addresssing is the manipulative and bad use of language. We must save the language the medium of communication if we wish to evolve the situation otherwise the wealthy will continue to justify systems that serve them only. It is anti-social and destructive to the nth degree.

I have not read Karl Marx or Adam Smith, I remember feeling oddly repulsed by Aynn Rand. What I feel is needed is thinking and speaking and acting inately from a far deeper, Wiser place. Books can't explain or touch it but, to quote a play, The Fantastiks, "Despite what pretty poets say, the night is only half the day., so we would like to truly finish what was foolishly begun for the story is not ended and the play is never done until we've all been burned a bit and burnished by the Sun."

Now there some useful language fer ye.

and when they mention the 'right to work' - I am sure they will bypass any info on the lower standards of states currently using this, of the removal of union protections, of the expectation of lower wages -- that the workers will pay for the loss of their rights so the corporation can have bigger profits or more for the executives.

    Thom,

Don't pass over so quickly, the issue the caller spoke to you regarding the lack of "news" coverage in his state of Indiana. This is very, very important! This is why the public is uninformed about what is going on behind their backs, without their knowledge. All of us have to be deligent in bringing attention to the lack of true and real information and closed door deals that is going on. Especially you, since you have a pulpit that can reach thousands and possibly millions of people, Please emphansize the issue of non coverage by the media of the Indiana issue.

    Thanks

I was listening to your interview with Tea Party guy Kevin Jackson and I don't think you called him on some of his statements. First of all, we shouldn't say Chinese workers will work for less than American workers. We should say Chinese wage slaves are forced to work for long hrs and less money. I'm pretty sure the slaves weren't given a choice to live in dorms and work 18 hour days. The suicide rates in those dorms are so high that Apple took steps to attempt to reverse it. Steve Jobs didn't decide to go to China solely because of the wage slaves either. China trained the wage slaves for him. China built the dorms the slaves live in. China feeds the slaves. China gave Apple the land to build the factory on. Well 'gave' is too strong a word. Apple doesn't own the land, but they use it for nothing. Heck, China built the factory. China also built the factories around the Apple factory that provide Apple a supply chain. That is why Apple made $400,000 per employee last year. Their profits are enormous. If we taxed Apple imports to the tune of the wage differential, Apple would see slightly less enourmous profits without raising the cost of a single Iphone or Ipad etc.

China isn't treating Apple special either. I went to a wine tasting featuring Chinese Wines. The gentleman facilitating the wine tasting was the owner of the winery. He said the 'workers' are paid $200 per month. What he didn't say but what I strongly suspect is true is that China built the dorms, wine vats and warehouse. I doubt they are charged much if anything for the land where they plant the vineyards. The wine costs $13 per bottle and that includes shipping and it was decent wine.

We should have a bumper sticker for Democrats this year that says, "I'm voting for the real Obama."

Depression, is there an evolutionary purpose to depression? If the answer is yes, then by bypassing the biological design of depression with drugs, a psychiatrist is not curing an illness, but covering up a crime and prolonging the incarceration of the patient whose emotional system has been injured and no longer working as evolution has intended. What is the biological function of the emotional system? This question must be answered before a psychological or psychiatric program can be prescribed. In a biochemical sense, the emotional system gives a person a conscious awareness to their chemical balance. In a NORMALLY FUNCITONAL INDIVIDUAL, the worse a person feel’s, the more out of harmony the person’s biochemistry and, the greater a person feel’s, the more in balance the individual’s biochemistry. But, the greater awareness of emotions is their ties to the thought and mental activities of the mind. It is within this emotion-mental-biochemical triad where depression should be defined as a necessary function of a living being and not as an illness to be covered up with drugs. Depression and the emotional system should be used as nature intended, to amplify the harmfulness of the individual’s thought process. Should an individual’s emotional guidance system give off a false-positive – where good feeling emotions correlate neither with the mental cognition of strength and ability, nor with biochemical and physiological wellbeing – then the principle of the survival of the fittest identified in Darwin’s theory of evolution will strive to eliminate that individual’s line of erroneous thought and emotional feeling from the gene pool.

Germany does have a lot of wonderful things, but they are not perfect and lack some basic freedoms that exist in the United States. In Germany, a legal immigrant can be fired if they find a German who can perform the same tasks. Leading to a high unemployment rate amongst professional and non-professional foreigners. You cannot immigrate your family even if you have citizenship(unless it is a spouse or child) over to Germany(as you can in the States). Muslim women who wear a headscarf are not allowed to teach children in schools. Non-Christians are not allowed to build private schools.

I'm a social Democrat myself, though, and completely agree with what you're saying. Again, there is a lot we can learn from the German system who practically manufactures all of it's goods.

So Pres. Obama is basically shifting the military toward special forces to do things more precisely, rather than trying to bomb our problems away. <sarcasm>What an elitist! He wants our soldiers to be elite.</sarcasm>

  • Is Indiana the new front line for the war on the working class?   13 years 26 weeks ago

it isn't the cost of union wages that is rising fast -- it is the executive increases. I was wondering if the percentage of increase of those and the top was reflective of the lack on increases on regular worker wages. It would be interesting to see if that is the indicator of stagnation.

Pres Obama referred to corporations getting tax incentives to out-source/ off-shore manufacturing and workers. What is the legislation that gives the incentives? when was it passed? Anyone?

    Thanks!

When conservatives say that the economy is being hurt by unions, what they are really saying is that the middle class is too wealthy, and needs to be made poorer.

  • Will Millionaires ever pay a minimum tax rate of 30%?   13 years 26 weeks ago

It's so unfair that income from blood, sweat, tears, toil and trouble is taxed at the maximum rate; while income from crapital gains is taxed at less than half the slave rate. The GOP likes to point out that half of all Americans pay no income tax, but everyone must pay payroll taxes, except investors. The cap on paying social security over $100,000, should also be removed. There should also be a tax on every trade so that this revenue can be pooled for the inevitable bailouts of the financial sector-the Tobin tax. Here in Canada, we also have a regressive GST consumption tax.The 8 sin taxes on booze have inspired me to make my own for the last 3 yrs of my dire impoverishment.I make exponentially more than I need and give away 95% of what I make free to the community, the Occupy Movement and the Communist Party.Do what you can to pay less taxes-the govt of Canada just wastes it on those lousy junk subs we bought from Britain.See how crappy they are on ctv.ca gp to programs W 5 "Subs Duds" and watch the doc. They can't dive, fire torpedos and spend 98% of the time in repairs.

  • What do you think of President Obama's State of The Union speech?   13 years 26 weeks ago

I was excited by the state of the union address that Obama gave, but I've heard great speechifying by him before.Whether any of his proposals can get by obstructionist republicans, remains to be seen. This speech seemed to be a lot more specific than the vague "yes we can" pablum.I think finally some in the leadership of the US get the depth and profundity of the Great Depression, but there is much denial here in Canada with Theivin' Harper's neo-cons.The Great Depression is said to be occurring somewhere else (Europe, US), it is said to have ended in Apr '09, there is a lot of talk about "possible double dip recesssion" or "going into another recession".I have been unemployed for 3 yrs-5X longer than ever before.I wonder if I'll ever work again.I have given up looking for work and am going to college for a BA.

That's what you get in life for that attitude: Nothing at all.

    Not wise!

Soros: Not much difference between Obama and Romneyhttp://www.rawstory.com/rs/2012/01/25/soros-not-much-difference-between-obama-and-romney/ It appears that we (the working class) are screwed either way.

  • What do you think of President Obama's State of The Union speech?   13 years 26 weeks ago

I wonder how many Republicans who responded to the poll by agreeing with Obama, will vote for him. There is such a disconnect between the way people feel & the way they vote. People seem to not understand the positions of the candidates they vote for, but vote based on negative TV ads that push their emotional buttons. Since having the wealthy pay more in taxes & stopping outsourcing of jobs seems so widely supported, the Democrats need to really push the message that this is what Republicans stand for-personified by Mitt Romney, the poster boy for the 1%.

    Quote humanitys team:safety, security, survival
You truly nailed it, but it's even better: We don't have to give away our freedom for all that. Our fellow humans in Germany have MORE freedom than we have. Believe me folks: Germany is freer than the U.S. There you can do things that are not allowed here...... for example jailbreak your cellphone card, which is absolutely legal in Germany. By the way, Merkel is a conservative and not a socialist! So it's absolutely stupid to say Germany was a socialist country. No, it's a modern country and we are darn old-fashioned and have to reform ourselves.

Safety, security, survival is just civilization. If some GOP fellows wish to live in stoneage.... why don't they? They can go to the desert, to live with the prairie dogs and coyotes. There they will hardly be safe and secure, as survival is pretty hard.

All the other Americans, who aren't hicks, can concentrate on building a modern America. With safety, security and even more freedom.....

The people of America have all the power but they gave it all away for the same reason everybody does?

    safety

    security

    survival

We the people have all the power but we live in fear what happened to give me liberty or give me death?Freedom is given away because of fear and is traded for the above!!!we have all been oppressed and repressed by our cultural story but a message of freedom from society,s belief in a deity that is oppressive, angry, violent will get us out of humanity,s constant struggle for the new spirituality is a civil rights movement for the soul and this message of freedom inspires the experience of freedom itself.

All this will occur all over the world and indeed is happening in many places it is the overhaul of humanity. When this message reaches critical mass it will not matter how powerful a dictator,s government is or how repressive a religion is because the people will no longer support this repression and oppression these authorities will disappear .

The foundational truth of the New spirituality is found in Thom,s book The Greatest Spiritual Secret of The Century.....!!!! ONENESS

WE ARE ALL ONE and the number of people that embrace this will increase exponentially each year.

Yes, America needs social democratic reforms. And this hasn't got anything to do with communism. Communists always hated social democracy. If any pro-Republican dares to mess up that here: I'll beat you guys up with European history and prove you morons!

So you better not dare it.... LOL
