Yes Obama makes a good speech; but, I agree...actions speak louder than words. It is really the actions that count. And Obama has not done a whole lot to make me believe he will be any different in the next four years. It is obvious to many of us WHO Obama is, really, and it is not who he portrayed himself to be when he campaigned the first time. It is obvious that Obama works for Wall Street and big corporate interests and against the poorer classes in America. He represents the 1 % and not the 99%.

Remember the debate the other night when the first question to Newt challenged his philandering? Remember how riled he got and belligerent and how the people loved it? How do you think Obama will stand up against that in a debate? Obama will just wimp out..."Oh, please don't yell at me, Mr. Newt!.....can't we all just..just....get along?". Too bad Clinton didn't tell the Republicans to just stick it up their.....instead of wimping out....and trying to deny it. They would have sh!t themselves out of disbelief that a Democrat would dare attack back. Democrats, some of them anyway, are just wimps....why? Because they are owned by the same people that own the Republicans. They have the same things in common....and it is not in common with the majority of people in the US.

Remember how Newt responded to the question about his philandering? Remember how he became very indignant and belligerent...and his followers loved it? Now, picture the "Can't we all just...get along?" President Obama sparring with Newt about anything. Newt would have Obama looking like the wimp that he is....and if I thought that Obama, reelected, would make a difference then I would, nevertheless, be routing for him. But as Obama was never any good, except in his pre-election campaign speeches the first time, at sounding tough....he'll likely wimp out in any debate against Newt. Too bad...because I hate Newt and Mitt Romney...and especially the Republican party. I'm hoping that Ron Paul is part of any Obama, (Newt or Mitt), debate because Ron Paul would bring out things that really need to be debated....things that everyone else doesn't want to touch..things the ruling elite want to keep quiet..and things they will mutually agree not to mention.

I remember a few years ago, a poor Mexican...maybe he was a Central American...had come to the US to earn enough money to take back to his country to start a business. He worked many years in the US and finally saved up enough...I believe it was something over $10,000. He was stopped at the airport and his money was taken from him and he was thrown into jail...as I recall.

Now, how is it that these damn rich people in the US, like Mitt Romney and others, get away with getting their money out of the country, stashing it in foreign bank accounts, so as to evade taxes? They get away with it because our Government, if they do anything at all, will make a deal with these people...telling them that if they bring their money into the country...they will be taxed at a very low rate....only if they use it to create jobs. But, then after the get the tax break...they don't create jobs....they keep exporting our jobs. Our country is run by a bunch of criminals...both in private sectors and in our government ....the politicians....the bureaucrats.

If any of us try to take more than a certain amount of cash out of the country...we would have the same problem that that poor worker had.

    Ooh, excellent point, Tinkerin.

  • The Republican Party has a serious problem on its hands – and its name is Newt Gingrich.   13 years 26 weeks ago

Obama may be able to unveil the fraud that Gingrich is ....but who will unveil the fraud that Obama is? They are all fraudsters! And the one that you believe is the least fraudulent will end up being the most fraudulent. They are pulling another one over on you. It uses your gullibility of hope that things will change for the better if you vote for the one that looks like he will be on your side.

It's a game of smoke and mirrors...a carney shell game...keep your eye on the pea. I won't matter who is elected...because even Obama is owned by the rich. He really is not the least of the evils.

Both the Republican and the Democrat parties are there to make sure that the rich win and the working, or unemployed, or retired people lose.

If you vote Republican...and are not filthy rich...then you are a useful idiot for the rich....if you vote Democrat...and are not filthy rich...then you are a useful idiot for the rich. There is only one way to stop this con-game...and it is not going to happen at the polls. We need more of Occupy Wall Street and it needs to grow in intensity. History has shown that that is the only way....it does not come about at the polls without the assistance of massive dissent to scare the bejesus out of the greedsters.

The DMV records are not always very accurate. In 2000, I bought a new car in the SF area and paid off the loan in a couple of years...by about 2002. I had been getting DMV renewal notifications in the mail for the first few years. Then, about 6 years ago, I stopped receiving the notices from DMV. I had inquired at DMV each year since and never got an answer...so I just kept renewing at the DMV with promises that they would look into it.

The last time I went in to complain, and ask why I have not received the renewal notification, they told me that the confusion might be because their records show that my car was registered under a dealership in LA. I had never bought a car at that dealership in LA, nor had I sold it to them. The dealer in SF area was not related to the one in LA...that I know of.

I had to fill out a form stating that I bought the car new at a dealer in the SF area new and have never sold the vehicle and have always been in possession of the car. I cannot understand how my car got registered as being owned by this dealer in LA. And I cannot understand why I was able to continue to register the car every year if this was the case. Nope, DMV is all screwed up for sure...at least the one in California.

    Re: Obama's speech

Obama makes a good speech, but actions speak louder than words. I am sure he is going to tickle our ears; tell us what we want to hear. Based on who Obama has represented the past three years, I am skeptical that he is going to represent the working and lower classes in the future. "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me".

Has anyone noticed that the earnings in your 401K are taxed as earned income when you withdraw them in retirement? Not at the 15% rate that "investors" pay now on capital gains. It didn't make much difference when the capital gains rate was higher than the tax bracket most of us will be in after retirement. Another example that shows the system is fixed for the benefit of the ultra wealthy over those who work for a living?

Correction: The sun will not go supernova. It doesn't have enough mass for that. It doesn't even have enough mass to become a neutron star. It will turn into a red giant, and eventually blow off its outer layers, leaving a white dwarf.

I remember being told during the Bush years that I hated Bush, that I disagreed with his views on the State of the Union address – before I heard it, that I thought his policies for the War in Iraq were totally wrong, before he spoke on national TV to impart his plans. Meanwhile, I was waiting to hear what he had to say, what the interpretation of some of the specifics would be, and the fact checking to come out to make a decision on how I felt. I knew that I had a bias, but I was willing to listen first. For some reason, the news outlets had pre-determined my mindset which I found offensive.

There is a systemic message among the Republicans of anti-respect for anything about the Democratic Party, no matter their genre, plus the hatred of liberal values, progressive values and community values that support the citizens. The pervasive bashing, not only of the president, but of Americans that work for a living and have no interest in being aggressive businessmen. i.,e, Those people that simply expect to work hard all their lives and retire to a very modest lifestyle.

The current rhetoric is that the State of the Union will be Pres Obama's campaign message. So republicans are told they don’t need to take the presidents speech seriously.

Community – a few pennies contributed by private business is touted as community interest and support. If the business received bigger tax breaks then the amount they contributed, are they really contributing anything or simply making up part of their obligation that left the community bereft of the dollars needed to support various programs and policies run by local and state agencies.

Since business has started competitions between states for their business -- the states and communities have been the losers. Now the game is at a 'country' level with 'repatrioting' money as the theme.

Again - with the country as the loser.

Didn't Mitt Romney actually work for Bain Capital, not Bain? According to Randi Rhodes, Bain did venture capital, while Bain Capital did vulture capital.

Interesting. Requiring decryption kind of sounds like a violation of the 5th Amendment, but it could also be seen as analogous to executing a search warrant. The difference from executing a physical search, though, is that that can be performed without the key to your house, but the decryption requires the owner's compliance. The use of blood samples, and even breathalyzers, is also in that grey area.

(There's a daily post up now, btw.)

Ruling could force Americans to decrypt laptops

    By
    Declan McCullagh

    (CNET)

American citizens can be ordered to decrypt their PGP-scrambled hard drives for police to peruse for incriminating files, a federal judge in Colorado ruled today in what could become a precedent-setting case.

Judge Robert Blackburn ordered a Peyton, Colo. woman to decrypt the hard drive of a Toshiba laptop computer no later than February 21 -- or face the consequences, presumably including contempt of court...

A representative here in Colorado, Doug Lamborn, has decided that he won't attend the State of the Union Address because it would be hypocritical to listen to someone with an opposing point of view. Well, then, since Democrats give speeches in the House of Representatives, it would also be hypocritical of Lamborn to stay in Congress. Therefore he should resign. He really should.

  • The Transport Workers Union don't want to bus Occupy Wall Street to Jail   13 years 26 weeks ago

The transport workers union of America began organizing subway workers in New York in the early 1930s, two of the three subway systems were privately owned and operated. The public and private management took advantage of high unemployment rates by offering jobs to and keeping on only those individuals willing to accept excessively low wages, brutal management practices, poor working conditions, and other severe aspects. With the national unemployment rate reaching 25 percent, there were nearly 20,000 applicants for every one job in the transit industry. On January 20, 2006, it was announced that the workers voted by a margin of only 7 votes to reject the contract that was negotiated to end the 2005 strike, but a revote was done three months later and the contract was overwhelmingly approved. However, the MTA has said the contract is off the table and sought binding arbitration in settling the negotiation, which ended on December 15, 2006, almost a year after the strike.

As much as I hate Newt (skink, salamander) for being such a hypocrite by attacking Clinton for the same sexual pecadilloes that he is guilty of (only to a greater degree). I think that he is less financially isolated than Romney. Mitt has absolutely no idea of what it's like to be poor or to work like a slave labourer. Mitt is more out of touch with the masses than Newt. Newt may be morally bankrupt, but he at least, may have a tiny spark of compassion for the working poor.

  • Will The Republicans have a brokered convention?   13 years 26 weeks ago

The debates look and sound like a Game Show. The booing and cheering audiences are horrible, tacky, lacking in class and they should not be there.

People need jobs, so instead the Republicans are talking about abortion and gay marriage and acting as though they are electing the "First Pastor" instead of the President.

The whole thing is a popularity contest, like high school. People never change.

The fix has been in for a while.

I think the debates are a new reality show like "Housewives of DC"
