The NRA and lots of other folks have pointed to a lack of enforcement of laws violated when Form 4473s are falsified. The NRA calls it "catch and release."
The NRA might be right once in a while, even if they are crazy.
The link below is allegedly a press release from John Dingell's office:
"Dingell Questions Reno on Prosecution Rate of Federal Firearm Felons"
Gerald your checklist doesn't ID an insane person, just tells you if the person is an a-hole or not. Being one isn't a crime, its just someone you wouldn't want to hang out with... nice try though.
A prayer for greatness of heartby Queen Mary Stuart
Keep us, O God, from all pettiness; let us be large in thought, in word, in deed. Let us be done with fault-finding and leave off all self-seeking. May we put away all pretense and meet each other face-to-face, without self-pity and without prejudice. May we never be hasty in judgment, and always generous. Let us always take time for all things, and make us grow calm, serene, and gentle. Teach us to put into action our better impulses, to be straightforward and unafraid. Grant that we may realize that it is the little things of life that create differences, that in the big things of life, we are as one. And, O God, let us not forget to be kind!
Here is a brief assessment to use as a guideline to note a mental disorder in a person, such as a politician. The definitive name is not given but the guideline can help you sense a crazy a person.
I watched Television Ontario (TVO). The program title was “The Corporation – The Pathology of Commerce”. The program mentioned that the Supreme Court ruled that a corporation is a person than surely a person is a person. The program highlighted a checklist for mental disorders. Since a corporation can be considered a person, the mental disorder checklist can be applied to people as well.
Here is the checklist.
1. Callousness toward people
2. Impersonal relationships with people
3. Disregard for the safety of others
4. Deceitfulness
5. Incapacity to experience guilt
6. Failure to comply toward social norms to benefit people
From the checklist corporations displayed a psychopathic mental disorder. If we use the same checklist for our two highest leaders, then we would have to conclude that George W. Bush and Dick Cheney display a mental disorder. It would be my perception that the above two men are unfit to be president and vice-president, respectively. They hold too much power for men who have a possible mental disorder.
IMHO I think requiring a mental evaluation, a police background check and a drug test prior to issuing a gun permit is reasonable. Besides I'd love to see what Palin would score on that mental test.
Heck I'm confident I could pass all the above... though I don't have any interest in owning a gun... that's probably just a coincidence though.
I'm really beginning to hate Republicans. They can't even accept any blame for their hateful, disgusting rhetoric after such a heinous crime was committed. I was so happy to hear the sheriff calling out our media and politicians for their part in creating our currently polarized political climate. At least liberals and those who aren't aligned on the far right can have an adult conversation about this truth.
My favorite part of this whole event is how defensive Republican/conservative talking heads have become. Before anyone even said anything about Fox, Limbaugh, or anything to the right, Fox news was taking offense to the sheriffs all to truthful statements that hateful rhetoric can be confusing to mentally unstable listeners. That doesn't mean that Fox wants Democrats to get shot, but it does mean that they need to change their rhetoric so as not to insite the crazy to do crazy things.....ie shoot a congress-person in the head and then go on a shooting rampage with multiple extended clips which would allow him to reload, reload, reload. Sounds to me like he took Palin's words to heart: "Don't retreat, RELOAD!!!"
Yeah, people on the right are trying to get some political gain out of the Giffirds shooting. People on the left, however, are trying to get a societal gain out of it.
I fear, Thom, that the media will do what makes the shareholders more money. They all love this sort of thing and can be relied upon to fan the flames even further. I used to be pretty optimistic about the direction this country is headed, but not any more. I think we're done for as a world leader.
Have you read the article by Ted Koppel - "The Death of Real News," or something like that. He gets it, I think. And do I understand that he works for the BBC now?
Keep up your good work, Thom, you're one of the few intelligent, not-paid-for voices out there !
I agree that we need to start a conversation - part of which involves condemning the climate of hate which is prompted by the incendiary and vitriolic commentary from the far right. I condemned any hint of violence against George W. Bush, no matter what I thought of him as a leader. I expect the leaders of our country to understand that words have consequences and they need to display cooperation and healthy debate, not bullet ridden rhetoric.
I would submit that we Americans need to revisit the Constitution of the United States and come to the idea and what I believe is the fact that it is no longer relevant in these times. All to often, Politicians on both sides of the isle have deliberately misinterpreted the Constitution for their own Political advantages and led many uneducated members of the public to believe what they hear from those parties. Thus, we now have the tea party and other wack job ideologies out there wielding guns and looking for targets amongst the innocent to denigrate.
I believe we should rewrite the Constitution in a language that all of us can understand today without changing its meaning, after all that document was written 224 years ago. Also, I would like to add that I am amazed that after all that time we only have 27 amendments made to it-- by now there should have been many more in accordance with changing political attitudes over that time.
CIA Manuchurian Candidate anyone? It would help make people think that we need to clamp down on a free exchange of information. They won't clamp down just on Rush Limpballs, you know. They will try to make laws making it illegal for anyone to say anything that is challenging those in power. This is exactly what they want. If they had that, then they wouldn't need Rush Limpballs or the other idiots on the right. You will no longer be able to say anything about 911, the war in Iraq, or anything about the banksters or wall street. This is exactly what they want. With the Wikileaks, and everyone able to see how corrupt and vile our "overlords" are through the free exchange of information and ideas, there are those in power who will do all kinds of deceitful psyops to make us all work against our collective welfare. But they know that they have to scare the people first with a few assassinations or threats or false flag operations of patsies set up to take the fall in some despicable act of violence.

Time to hire a pride of cats for LA City Hall.
Does Higgins have any peer recommendations?

When building a fire, you don't try to light the logs. You light the kindling, the shredded newspapers, the fringe.
