Gabriel, The Stim is working and most of the money goes out this fall and next year. There is still to much red tape involved in getting the stim money out.

The cut the Crap web site is awesome.
Gabriel,Obama wants a bi-partisan bill which I think is nonsense, we need health care now !Health care is our biggest obstacle to jobs, it`s a proven fact that health care is killing our jobs.Outsourcing happened because of health care and not wages.American workers lag behind other industrialized nation in wages paid in spot number 17 out of the top 20 industrialized nations and consequently we rank near the bottom in Unionized workers to.

    Gabriel,

I ask that same question regarding the "stimulus mess."

  • Monday August 3 2009   14 years 38 weeks ago

If Obama is as smart as I think that he is why is he making such a mess?

Matt Taibbi came up with what we should call present day robber barons. We should call them Goldmanites!

    Cassie,

My son has broken so many bones at work. He has broken a foot more than once. I don't know if your injury is similar, but it may help you to know that the doctor has told my son that there isn't much that can be done for (his) broken foot. It would just take time.

Would it help you to wrap your foot with an Ace bandage? It might help relieve some ot the pressure.

It occurs to me that we need "human co-ops" where people can contact each other in the same city for help...

A 2003 report on the Canadian automotive industry shows that the direct labor hourly cost in Canada is 31% less that that in the US for assembly of light vehicles. How much of that is due to the Canadian healthcare system?

Is that why GM, Ford, Chrysler, Honda and Toyota all have plants in Canada?

I have to disagree with Thom slightly about conservative caring about America as much as progressives. Conservatives—or at least those on “the Right”—only care about a narrow slice of America “their” America, by which they mean the white part. They are stuck in cement in a past while the future passes them by. The fear change in the status quo, even when it is required for the country’s survival.

I also find it amusing when racists come-up with these wild numbers (probably from Lou Dobbs and Michelle Malkin) about how much “brown people” are costing “real” Americans. It is useful to note that people prefer the term “illegal alien” over “undocumented worker” because they prefer to think that these “brown people”—actually they prefer to use more pejorative terms—are here to take advantage of social welfare programs, not to work. Working, of course, implies paying taxes, and that is what is always left out of the equation—they also pay taxes. A Seattle Times story a few months ago—one of the few “positive” stories has printed about Latinos—suggested that undocumented workers in the state actually pay a slightly higher percentage of their income in taxes than legal residents in the state. A GAO study a few years ago also suggested that undocumented workers pay as much 15 percent of what otherwise would be a shortfall in funding of Social Security.

Thom, to the man in Connecticut, I am an extremely low income mom with a son who is extremely disabled. While my two sons qualify for my state's(Oregon) insurance for low income families, I can not get any coverage because they limit the number of people on it. Last week I fell and hurt my foot and I suspect I may have broken a bone ( there is a large hard bump where there shouldn't be and I can't arch my foot) but I haven't gone in to have it checked out because I can not pay the bill I would incure. A broken foot makes it very difficult to take care of children FYI.
When I am sick, I simply will get better or die, I do not go to the doctor, ever. That is for the privileged.
I am a real person living in the good old USA, land of the free to watch others around you die and suffer as long as you've got yours.

When these people start talking about having healthcare through their employer, why don't they stop to ask themselves who is paying for their healthcare?

It's the people and/or businesses that are buying products and services that are paying for their healthcare. Whenever they go to a store and buy a twelve-pack of soda or beer, why don't they stop to think about how much of the cost of that product goes to pay for healthcare for employees of the stores, distributors and producers of that product? And the cost of healthcare built into the cost of computers, software, machinery, etc. that those companies use?

We (the public) are already paying for the healthcare costs of those companies when we make purchases.

And how much money would a company save if they didn't have to worry about providing healthcare for their employees? How many people are employeed by major corporations in their human resources departments just to administer the healthcare options for their employees?

  • Monday August 3 2009   14 years 38 weeks ago

    crease,

    i.e., a real public option.

  • Monday August 3 2009   14 years 38 weeks ago

    That's great, crease!

Is there any reason you think they might not support AT LEAST a real gov't option for healthcare?

I think California proves Thom right on the economic failures of the Cons. Gov. G. Davis tried to fix the budget left by the energy scandal by raising the v.l.f.(vehicle license fee). He was then recalled.
Enter "the Governator", who campaigns of the promise of repealing the higher tax. He wins, he repeals the tax, and I got a amazing $150 per year tax cut. The state however lost about $7 billion per year. Let's all do the math now, 4 years of "the Governator" x $7 billion and you have the failed State of California.
I would rather pay an extra $150 per year, than go through the coming misery. California is now the Republicans dream economy.

The Obama support team invalidated Brad Blog who was trying to tell them how to protect the vote. Sadly, people will think the voting problems have all been solved.

    TFF,

"Maroon" comes from Bugs Bunny, who used it instead of calling another cartoon character a "moron."

Bill Shuster from the heavily Republican 9th district of Pennsylvania sent an email with a link to this poll about health care. He asked that it be shared on Facebook. I already called his office to make sure that I told him my whole stand on health care and to put him on notice that this could not be considered a scientific poll since people can respond as often as they like. I was told it was fine. I hope many of you will click and leave your opinion for him. I would like to see his face if we are able to change the results to be the opposite of what he expects.
