Why are the police so aggressive toward the public? In part because their ranks attract bullies, sociopaths and psychopaths. Even normal cops are proud of their authority and expect deference. Even cops who are not primed to be set off can turn nasty in a heartbeat. In part because police are not accountable. The effort decades ago to have civilian police review boards was beat back by "law and order" conservatives. In part because the police have been militarized by the federal government, equipped with military weapons, and trained to view the public as the enemy. In part because the Bush/Cheney/Obama regimes have made every American a suspect. The only civil liberty that has any force in the U.S. today is the law against racial discrimination. This law requires that every American citizen be treated as if he were a Muslim terrorist. The Transportation Security Administration rigorously enforces the refusal to discriminate between terrorist and citizen at airports and is now taking its gestapo violations of privacy into every form of travel and congregation: trucking, bus and train travel, sports events, and, without doubt, shopping centers and automobile traffic.
..."factory farms" = nightmares. If those who eat meat would become willing to look at what is done in their name, with their dollar -- factory farms would end. Respect for the animal is respect for the Creator. Blindly allowing these torture factories to exist is a part of allowing mega-corps to walk all over us.
Right on Thom; Re: the grotesque trophy hunter. New ugly twist: restaurants for the super greedy that serve up endangered "game" -- including Gorilla -- here -- yes, HERE, and in Europe, to the super greedy so they can feel like Nero. Go to http://www.janegoodall.org/action. It is served under the name of "bushmeat".
It is the world divide between the cruel and those who believe that cruelty is a necessary survival skill -- and compassion and those who believe that compassion is a necessary spiritual skill and the foremost skill needed to build successful, long-lasting, thriving communities.
Crying parents tell their children If you survive don't do as we did A son exclaims there'll be nothing to do to Her daughter says she'll be dead with you While foreign affairs are screwing us rotten Line morale has hit rock bottom Dying embers stand forgotten Talks of peace were being trodden
Stand or fall state your peace tonight Stand or fall state your peace tonight
Is this the value of our existence Should we proclaim with such persistence Our destiny relies on conscience Red or blue what's the difference
Stand or fall state your peace tonight Stand or fall state your peace tonight
An empty face reflects extinction Ugly scars divide the nation Desecrate the population There will be no exaltation

Thanks. It is good to finally find a like mind. At least no one here is calling me a liberal puke or suggesting that I might gain an education by reading Milton Friedman's crap. I edit business and econ textbooks for a living, at least I did until Bush and his thugs cut almost all education funding and created All Children Left Behind, For the past 15 years, I have read about the bad/destructive practices being taught in our high schools, colleges/universities, and business schools. It is a shame.
Now if we can get at least 60 percent of the population on the same page. I talk to people about this all the time. People have fear about losing their jobs or standing up to corporations. I keep trying to tell them that they are an important and powerful 2/3 of business. Without the consumer and the worker, all business has is ideas; it has nothing to sell and no one to purchase it.
We, as consumers, can be very powerful. In my house, we don't give our money to bad companies like BP and Valero (Koch Brothers) or to Red Lobster, a past favorite, because of its advertising with Fox and who most likely doen't care that much about bad industrial fishing practices. Instead we eat at the excellent local Mexican eatery, which employes hard-working immigrants. We don't feel deprived; we feel empowered by our thoughtful and reseached choices. Democracy is not a spectator sport.
I love this song! The chorus is perfect... "we can bomb the world to pieces but we can't bomb it in to peace"

Michael Franti - Bomb The World
Please tell me the reason
Behind the colors that you fly
Love just one nation
And the whole world we divide
You say you're "sorry"
Say, "there is no other choice"
But god bless the people them
Who cannot raise their voice
(chorus)
We can chase down all our enemies
Bring them to their knees
We can bomb the world to pieces
But we can't bomb it into peace
Whoa we may even find a solution
To hunger and disease
We can bomb the world to pieces
But we can't bomb it into peace
Violence brings one thing
More more of the same
Military madness
The smell of flesh and burning pain
So i sing out to the masses
Stand up if you're still sane!
To all of us gone crazy
I sing this one refrain
(chorus)
And i sing power to the peaceful
Love to the people y'all
Power to the peaceful
Love to the people y'all
Bomb the world (armageddon version)
I don't understand the whole reason why
You tellin' us all that we need to unify
Rally round the flag
And beat the drums of war
Sing the same old songs
Ya know we heard 'em all before
You tellin' me it's unpatriotic
But i call it what i see it
When i see it's idiotic
The tears of one mother
Are the same as any other
Drop food on the kids
While you're murderin' their fathers
But don't bother to show it on cnn
Brothers and sisters don't believe them
It's not a war against evil
It's really just revenge
Engaged on the poorest by the same rich men
Fight terrorists wherever they be found
But why you not bombing tim mcveigh's hometown
You can say what you want propaganda television
But all bombing is terrorism
(chorus)
We can chase down all our enemies

Seems like it'll be an endless price tag
Of wars tremendous
And most disturbingly
The death toll is so horrendous
So i send this to those
Who say they defend us
Send us into harm's way
We should all make a rememberence that
This is bigger than terrorism
Blood is blood is blood and um

I asked my Highschool 'Polisci' teacher (the class was mandated) why we only had 2 parties...he didnt have an answer.
Now I know after more than 20 years...so...'informed friends' wont let other friends vote for any rep/dem because they have
been compromised since before many of us were born.
