Conservatives cannot ever adequately explain why food safety should not be regulated. Setting "performance standards" is meaningless if there are no consequences for failing to meet the standards and if there are no inspectors to inspect that the performance standards are met. I suppose we are to take companies at their word that their practices are safe.
The man from Reason Magazine used a fear tactic that he thought would appeal to liberals: if you regulate, it would be so prohibitively expensive that organic farmers would be put out of business! Which I doubt since they're usually smallish and follow better guidelines than the government would ever put out. They'd only fail if a conservative agency wanted them to fail and harassed them incessantly.
And whenever someone does get ill or dies, what do the conservatives cry: Why wasn't someone checking up on them? They want regulation when they themselves are at risk. But when it's for the greater good and might cost companies a little to ensure they're doing things right, then no. They should be ashamed of themselves.
I hate to say it, but maybe its due to more antibiotics and irradiation?
The reason that food sickness down over 10 years period? Perhaps it is because organic food purchases are up 75% over the last 5 years.

I guess the joke is this: the NYT headline originally said: "Pole Gets Shot in Head, Notices 5 Years Later." In minutes, they dropped "Pole" and put "Man". The Pole designation now comes farther into the article.

On the one hand, at first glance it looks like the kind of scandal that could cause shock waves to reach powerful and sinister men in their boardrooms, their true game exposed to the masses. I HAVE BEEN READING ABOUT VARIOUS FORMS OF FASCISM AND THEIR EFFECTS ON POPULATIONS. (SEE FOR EXAMPLE www.teabaggersblog.com ) When you see what is going on with the immigration law in Arizona and the mosue in lower manhattan, you would run out into the street screaming about how your life has changed and is being challenged. There is a group that is deliberately denegrading hispanics, molems and blacks in the form of the black president by minimalizing and demonizing him as a non American and a Muslem. By the way, religion should not be an issue since by the constitution there can be no official religion and no religious test for any office including that of the president.
The ground zero Islamic center is a bad idea. Why did they choose that location? Why not one of the outer boroughs? They must have wanted to provoke hostility. They sure have mine, and I am not at all prejuediced against Muslims. Freedom? Nonsense. Lower Manhattan is a commercial zone. No one goes there to play basketball or socialize.

Religious Leaders' Statement on Christian Zionism
"We Stand for Justice. We Can Do No Other"
JERUSALEM, AUG. 30, 2006 (Zenit.org).- Here is "The Jerusalem Declaration on Christian Zionism" released Aug. 22. The statement was written by Latin Patriarch Michel Sabbah of Jerusalem and other local heads of Churches in Jerusalem.

Christian Zionism is a modern theological and political movement that embraces the most extreme ideological positions of Zionism, thereby becoming detrimental to a just peace within Palestine and Israel.
The Christian Zionist program provides a worldview where the Gospel is identified with the ideology of empire, colonialism and militarism. In its extreme form, it laces an emphasis on apocalyptic events leading to the end of history rather than living Christ's love and justice today.
We categorically reject Christian Zionist doctrines as false teaching that corrupts the biblical message of love, justice and reconciliation.
We further reject the contemporary alliance of Christian Zionist leaders and organizations with elements in the governments of Israel and the United States that are presently imposing their unilateral preemptive borders and domination over Palestine.
This inevitably leads to unending cycles of violence that undermine the security of all peoples of the Middle East and the rest of the world.
We reject the teachings of Christian Zionism that facilitate and support these policies as they advance racial exclusivity and perpetual war rather than the gospel of universal love, redemption and reconciliation taught by Jesus Christ.
Rather than condemn the world to the doom of Armageddon we call upon everyone to liberate themselves from the ideologies of militarism and occupation. Instead, let them pursue the healing of the nations!
We call upon Christians in Churches on every continent to pray for the Palestinian and Israeli people, both of whom are suffering as victims of occupation and militarism. These discriminative actions are turning Palestine into impoverished ghettos surrounded by exclusive Israeli settlements.
The establishment of the illegal settlements and the construction of the Separation Wall on confiscated Palestinian land undermine the viability of a Palestinian state as well as peace and security in the entire region.
We call upon all Churches that remain silent, to break their silence and speak for reconciliation with justice in the Holy Land.
Therefore, we commit ourselves to the following principles as an alternative way:
We affirm that all people are created in the image of God. In turn they are called to honor the dignity of every human being and to respect their inalienable rights.
We affirm that Israelis and Palestinians are capable of living together within peace, justice and security.
We affirm that Palestinians are one people, both Muslim and Christian. We reject all attempts to subvert and fragment their unity.
We call upon all people to reject the narrow world view of Christian Zionism and other ideologies that privilege one people at the expense of others.
We are committed to non-violent resistance as the most effective means to end the illegal occupation in order to attain a just and lasting peace.
With urgency we warn that Christian Zionism and its alliances are justifying colonization, apartheid and empire-building.
God demands that justice be done. No enduring peace, security or reconciliation is possible without the foundation of justice. The demands of justice will not disappear. The struggle for justice must be pursued diligently and persistently but without violence.

This is where we take our stand. We stand for justice. We can do no other. Justice alone guarantees a peace that will lead to reconciliation with a life of security and prosperity for all the peoples of our land. By standing on the side of justice, we open ourselves to the work of peace -- and working for peace makes us children of God.

Your efforts to spread paranoia & fear are dangerous. You have no real desire to honor & defend the Constitution. You are indefferent to the rights of all people here in America. Nor does your defense of such a position amount to anything more than opportunistic bigotry & jingoism.
I ascribe to the contrary: Nothing would show the world better that America is above the inflammatory & divisive rhetoric & actions of religiously biased nations, by accepting & even embracing the creation of a mosque. Even ON Ground Zero, for all I care.

Haven't read Obama's books, but think it's logical to say "I will stand with ..." to show that he supports (whomever is being attacked) because it's the right thing to do.
