Quark, I'm sure Cheney is a fond believer in "Accidents happen." A plausible death from an accident really doesn't raise a lot of nasty little questions.
I tell you something else, it never sat well with me when after 911 Bush specifically said "We shouldn't give into conspiracy theories." Especially in light of his daddy's off the wall comments at Ford's funeral in regards to the JFK assassination conspiracies.
I'm not saying that I believe in any particular theory, however, I equally don't believe the Government cover-up stories either. In a lot of questionable dealings, all I know is that I don't know, but I know better than to trust the cat with feathers around its feet. ;-)
Re Republicans and Democrats being different sides of the same coin. I've only heard a very small bit about some of the voting irregularities in Massachusetts' recent Senate race. I kind of expect that from mainstream media, but even on the progressive talk shows I listen to, I have not really heard it discussed.
Its frustrating when even sources you trust really are not bringing up some of the more pertinent issues, even if its to say "the irregularities really don't seem to have substance".
Progressives really need to understand the old saying "Mind your pennies, and the dollars will take care of themselves." We need to mind our voting process, and let the process take care of itself."
I'm a Die Hard Voter Verification, Public Campaign Reform, Instant Runoff Voter fool. I really believe all else will follow.
I have been extremely upset by the supreme court decision but have just read Glenn Greenwald's blog on this topic (http://www.salon.com/news/opinion/glenn_greenwald/2010/01/22/citizens_un...) and am now seeing the other side of this coin. I would like some rational discussion of the issues that Glenn raises regarding this supreme court decision. Glenn is very knowledgeable and has the liberal credentials to make me take his opinion seriously.
1) It gets VERY interesting if you dig a little deeper. His pilot, who was lambasted in the media for being inexperienced and stupid, was actually VERY experienced and had been Wellstone's pilot for other events.
2) There are minor things (something like a small piece of electronic or magnetic hardware) that can be attached before a flight to throw a small plane off course. "Problem" solved.
The Dems so often seem like the "happy face" side of the corporate coin, to the Repugs.' "scary face" side. It's still a corporate coin.
The founders knew what was necessary to get rid of corporate (The East India Company) overlords. I don't know how that translates in the 21st century. The real tea partiers get it and we real progressives get it. Right now we are trying the nibbling, incremental fixes. I think it takes more than that.
Question: Do you think the Dems are bought and paid for and using the filibuster as an excuse for not getting things done? That's what I mean by wolves and sheep's clothing. If so what are alternatives?
Paul Wellstone recounted a (then) recent incident that happened while he was in Rochester, MN to speak to a group from Hormel at the same time that Cheney was in town. Somehow the two had an opportunity to exchange a few words. Cheney told Paul, "Watch you back."
That clearly rattled Paul, to the point that he told his neighbor about it later.
I read the NY Times and the local rag --- the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. I still manage to glean a little useful info. from them, tho I know their shortcomings. (I also read magazines and progressive web sites.)
You might be interested to know that my FBI profiler friend always reads The Washington Post, the Huffington Post and The Drudge Report (to see what the other side is saying.)
Quark, you are from Minnesota and so you know first hand where Paul Wellstone stood with the voters.
Quark, I do not read newspapers because ninety-four percent of the media is controlled by the repugs.
When was the last time the newspapers had great investigative reporters. If an article does not pass the Editor's Test, the article will not go to print.
Quark, the shadow government controls the election process.
Here is the breakdown of our household's voting pattern.
I and our youngest son voted for Obama. The two older sons voted for McCain. My wife voted for someone else. If Nader ran, she would have voted for him because she has voted for Nader in the past.
I would have voted for McCain but Palin as his running mate turned me off. If McCain was truly a maverick, I would have voted for him because I consider myself a maverick.
Quark, Paul Wellstone would have been the repugs worst nighmare. I do not believe that they killed. What was a surprise to me is that Minnesota may have voted him out of office.
I remember a supervisor say that people get what they deserve. Americans are receiving what they deserve. Brain dead voters will vote for brain dead politicians.
Thom had one guest toward the end of his three hour show that felt Obama was more for corporations than the people when he was running for the presidency. She was very insighful of her impressions of Obama.
I voted for Obama and he beat the crap out of me in an old fashion alley mugging once he was elected.
Whoever you are, I will be on the lookout for you (under whatever your avatar name you choose) from now on...you little lurker, you. How much did you get paid today?

Nels,
Yes, I wish progressive media (at LEAST) would cover the voting irregularities.
THOM,
This includes you.

That's an interesting statement Wellstone made Quark.
Cheney is a cowardly little bastard who would happily torture people to keep the American people in the "Right State of Mind".
Wouldn't surprise me one bit if he had a part in Wellstones' plane maintenance routine.
Question: Do you think the Dems are bought and paid for and using the filibuster as an excuse for not getting things done? That's what I mean by wolves and sheep's clothing. If so what are alternatives?
Gerald,
What do you think about this, a true story ---
Paul Wellstone recounted a (then) recent incident that happened while he was in Rochester, MN to speak to a group from Hormel at the same time that Cheney was in town. Somehow the two had an opportunity to exchange a few words. Cheney told Paul, "Watch you back."
That clearly rattled Paul, to the point that he told his neighbor about it later.
Gerald,
When I think of it, I read The Observer and other foreign sources of news.
Gerald,
I read the NY Times and the local rag --- the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. I still manage to glean a little useful info. from them, tho I know their shortcomings. (I also read magazines and progressive web sites.)

Gerald,
I voted (stupidly) for Reagan the first time and Nader once. I (like you, I think) question authority (though I sometimes make mistakes.)
BTW, my very Republican mother never questioned authority. She went along with the party. That, to me, was obscene.
Quark, you are from Minnesota and so you know first hand where Paul Wellstone stood with the voters.

Take down the media, take down the country.
Gerald,
Yes, but a democracy can't survive without an HONEST, FREE PRESS. We lost that starting with the Limbaugh propaganda machine over 30 years ago.
Gerald,
No, I worked on all of Paul's campaigns. He was gaining in the polls and the trajectory showed he would have won had he lived.
Gerald,
I reluctantly voted for Obama. We had no good choices except Kucinich and they rigged the game against him.
s.b. "whatever avatar name you choose"

Brad,

Nels,
I see leadership setting the "tone" for the enterprise. Obama's "tone" has a hollow ring.
Gerald,
Think how much trouble Paul Wellstone would have been to the Repugs? That's why, in my dark heart, I think they killed him.
