Quote Mark Saulys:I'm all for freedom from religion - including that of the atheists. The solution to intolerance is tolerance not an opposite intolerance.
The problem with NDE's are the N. Correct me if I am wrong, but as I understand it no one has ever been revived after brain death. If the brain is still alive and active so is the mortal consciousness to some extent. Though there may indeed be some transitional death affect on the unconscious mind at the time of death no one really knows for sure if that conscious will continue after brain death. I guess that is just a question that we will have to wait and find out on our own when the time comes. Nevertheless, the phenomenon of NDE's is quite promising and intriguing.
Pali, your Psychology Today article seems a typical completely biased hatchet job. The author clearly hasn't read the research by Gallup and others. One essential aspect of an NDE - and I don't know to what, if any, extent the OBE, OBE is not something I ever really studied about, it may well be, for all I know, hogwash - is that the individual undergoing an NDE commonly witnesses things happening that they could not possibly otherwise from where their body is laying. This can't be dismissed as "halucinations" as skeptics initially tried to do because, as Gallup said, an halucination is a witnessing of something that is not there or not taking place, however, the NDE subjects were witnessing things that were proven, in fact, be present or events that were, in fact, taking place but at a remote distance from where the subject's body was laying. Similarly with the clairevoyance of Edgar Cayce and others.
My good friend recently adopted agnosticism after graduating Bible College and abandoned a strong committment to a devout life. (He gained a lot of respect from me when he did, has credibility and apparent integrity.) He networks with others similarly converted (to agnosticism or atheism). He was the one who coined the term "evangelical atheist" for those who have to prosyletize their belief in nothingness - which he finds annoying.
By the way, at least one - but no doubt more - or Gallup's subjects was an atheist before his NDE but is no more as a result of it.
I'd say that the so-called "chemtrails" are a big polluter of our atmosphere...for sure...those jet engines have to burn fossil fuel to make them go. But most of those contrails are water vapor. Clouds are water vapor. Contrails look just like clouds except they are lines in the sky rather than amorphous blobs. Stare at those zig-zagging contrails long enough and you might start imagining seeing all kinds of things. The reason they zig-zag is because all those many jets are going different places and have different routes. Nothing mysterious about that, is there?
These many thousands of civilian jet-liners, military jets, and NASA rockets are major fossil fuel polluters. And that is certainly going to kill some of us over a long term. And eventually kill most of us over an even longer term through Global Warming. I have long heard of the "chemtrail" accusations but I don't necessarily believe it.
Whether there is anything conspiratorially significant in anything else they may contain is not very convincing to me. If the ruling elite wanted to kill off millions of people all they would have to do is starve them and withhold medical health care. They can starve them and withhold medical healthcare by making these things far too expensive (as in rising supermarket prices or exorbitant health care insurance rates...or withhold necessary diagnostic tests to catch early preventable cases of cancer). And besides, you don't see any of the uber-wealthy people of the ruling elite going around wearing haz-mat suits or masks do you? Of course, I suppose if you believe that the lizard people are immune to these "chemtrails" and that they are the ruling elite trying to kill everyone else off then I wonder who they (the lizard people) expects to mow their lawns or trim there trees for them. They surely won't do that menial labor themselves. ;-}
I used to listen to the Art Bell show...now Coast to Coast AM with George Noory. And I used to read Jeff Rense web site stories. Talk about conspiracy theories gone wild!!! Whew!
I think that the ruling elite are the capitalist pig parasites who are at the end of capitalism as Marx predicted where they own just about everything there is to own. And they are still trying to squeeze out that last drop before they kill the host. The parasite will also die when there is no host to feed upon. And they'll die suffocating in their own excretions.

✘ Omega 3, omega 6 and omega 9 are all available in fish oil. But the fish stocks are depleted and are now a major cause of heavy metal poisoning. Hemp seed and hemp oil is the healthy alternative. Nutritious hemp oil is emerging as alternative to toxin-tainted fish. New study finds mercury pollution is a serious health risk for those that eat fish.
✘ According to the latest research, there are about 45 nutrients that humans can't live without and which their bodies can't manufacture: 21 minerals, 13 vitamins, eight amino acids and two essential fatty acids. No single food has them all. But when a food is discovered that is a rich source of several essential nutrients, such as hemp seed, it makes nutrition news. Its promoters bill hemp seed as the soybean of the new millennium. In addition to containing vitamins and minerals (calcium, iron, thiamine, niacin and riboflavin), hemp seed, like the soybean, is a vegetable source of complete protein, having all eight amino acids. Hemp oil (pressed from the hemp seed) is, according to many, the best source of the two essential fatty acids (or EFAs) we can't live without: omega 3 alpha-linolenic acid and omega 6 linoleic acid.
✘ In 1992 a consortium of 20 British farmers requested permission to grow industrial hemp, a crop that had been banned since 1971. Home Office Minister Michael Jack saw no reason to oppose the request since industrial hemp had been grown for years on the Continent "without any problems". The farmers received licenses to cultivate 1500 acres. In 1993 a consortium of 10 Canadian farmers requested permission to grow hemp, a crop that had been banned since 1923. The federal government informed them the law would have to be changed before commercial plots could be harvested. However, seeing that "farmers in Canada are very interested in it", Health Minister Diane Marleau issued a permit for 18 acres of experimental plots. The next year Parliament enabled commercial harvests.
HEMP SEED: THE MOST NUTRITIONALLY COMPLETE FOOD SOURCE IN THE WORLD ☛ Part One by Lynn Osburn
✘ Hemp seed oil comprises 35% of the total seed weight. This oil has the lowest amount of saturated fatty acids at 8%, and the highest amount of the polyunsaturated essential fatty acids at 80%, total oil volume. Flax seed oil comes in second at 72% combined total essential fatty acids.
✘ Linoleic acid (LA) and linolenic acid (LNA) cannot be made by the human body and must be obtained through the diet, so they are called essential fatty acids (EFA). LA and LNA are the most important fatty acids in human nutrition and health. They are involved in producing life energy from food and the movement of that energy throughout the body. EFAs govern growth, vitality and state of mind. Still, much is unknown about their functioning in the body.
☛ The Top 10 Healthiest Seeds on Earth Hemp contains: All 20 amino acids, including the 9 essential amino acids (EAAs) our bodies cannot produce.
☛ Therapeutic Hemp Oil by Andrew Weil, M.D. The nutritional composition of oil from the marijuana plant could be beneficial to your health. To most people, Cannabis sativa is synonymous with marijuana, but the plant's Latin name means the "useful hemp." Species designated sativa (useful) are usually among the most important of all crops. In fact, the utility of hemp is manifold: the plant has provided human beings with fiber, edible seeds, an edible oil, and medicine, not just a notorious mind-altering drug.
Hemp grain is the most nutritionally complete seed on the planet for human consumption. Each hemp seed contains 25% protein. This protein is more easily digestible than the protein in soybeans because it contains a perfect ratio of essential fatty acids (EFA's). EFA's are important for strengthening your immune system and protecting you from disease. Fish oil and flax oil are also high in EFA's, but hemp contains the most perfect ratio of EFA's for human consumption. Hemp grain is also high in iron and calcium and is an excellent source of dietary fiber. ☛ Boulder Hemp Company, July 1999
☛ Richard Rose, Hemp Food Using the square peg of science on the round hole of politics costs much in legal fees, and is rarely anything but a failure as this latest publicity stunt proves. The continued restrictive scheduling of Cannabis in the US is but the most glaring example: if science could actually rule politics, marijuana and vaporizers would have been available in every liquor store in the land years ago. But instead doctors and the sick and dying are locked up like criminals by the same cynicism that makes untrained street police replace physicians when it comes to medicine, and calls it science. Advocacy science is the bending of science to meet the goals of the advocate, and both are a little less for it. The Cannabis plant doesn't need, nor deserve, this kind of approach. It can hardly be considered a victory for a plant that deserves so much more, and needs so much less.
✘ Nutrition plays a very important in mental health. Studies have shown that people who suffer from bipolar disorder have low levels of Omega 3 fatty acids. ✘ Omega 3 fatty acids are crucial for brain health and are highly concentrated in the brain. When there is a deficiency of Omega 3, psychological/brain disorders may occur due to the imbalance. ✘ Hempseeds and hempseed oil are considered superfoods and are an excellent way to incorporate Omega fatty acids into the diet. Hempseeds have the perfect 3:1 ratio of Omega fatty acids required by the human body for optimum health. Not only are they an excellent source of Omega fatty acids, hempseeds are also packed with edestin protein (the protein most easily digestible by the human body, as it is similar to human globulin), vitamins, and minerals.

✘ Hemp Seed Oil is fast gaining a very estimable reputation among gourmets, naturalists, and nutritionists alike, due to its pleasant nutty flavor as well as its benificial nutritional properties!
✘ Hemp seed oil has been used for thousands of years by Asian and European peoples.
✘ There are still regions where Hemp seed oil is the preferred oil for all cooking needs. The people often make the oil themselves and savor it throughout the year.
✘ Once the Hemp Seed has had its oil removed what remains is Hemp Seed Meal. This meal contains very high concentrations of protein (28%) since the protein is not removed during oil pressing. About 8% of the oil still remains in this meal due to the impossibility of pressing out all of the oil in a natural mechanical way.
✘ The meal can then be milled carefully to a very fine consistency, and is then known as Hemp Seed Flour. Due to its favorable nutritional consistency it is finding uses in many kinds of prepared foods.
✘ It is easy to see that the Hemp Plant is a remarkable plant capable of producing many products so beneficial to mankind. Fiber, Seed, Oil, Meal, and Medicine only top the list.

I think we can win more elections if we listen to what Loren Bliss said some time ago. One wedge issue is making people in red states have to vote Republican when they otherwise wouldn't. Gun Control! People in cities who are immersed in poverty and the resulting gun violence are easily convinced that Gun Control is a great idea when actually, ending poverty is a better idea. People who live in the country and rural areas have no access to emergency police services; and, as Loren said, one 30 cent round can take down an animal that can feed a family for a year. To them, the idea of Gun Control is a threat to their very existence. They have no choice but to hold their nose and vote Republican.
I believe that if we were to stop this silly self-defeating campaign in the Democratic party we would be able to attract enough red states to voting Democratic to win every election in a landslide.
It is a shame to throw elections away and have to deal with the likes of George W. Bush and his administration of cold blooded, war profiteering murderers just to support one initiative that if even enacted to the fullest would do nothing to prevent the very problem that it would allegedly solve.
I posted a claim a week or so before the program had Mr. McPherson's comments about our eminent demise as a specie. My reasoning was based on an appreciation of non-linear systems which feature the concept of 'tipping points.' I still think we have passed the point where we had opportunity to reverse the process of global warming for the reasons I stated earlier. However, your position that we 'get it in gear' is the proper course despite the inevitable, effective opposition of the oligarchs. If we go down, let it be with dignity though there be none left to remember.
Nukes, comets, asteroids, super volcanoes...almost immediate annihilation. Of course we can prevent Nukes but it doesn't look like the US is willing to play nice....they are risking a confrontation that could wipe out most of the life in the world.
Global Warming is the one thing that most of us here will believe science instead of the ignorance propagated by the ones who are denying Global Warming. Yay science! Boo ignorance!
Of course, science created nukes at the instigation and funding of politicians; but, it was the scientists who desperately tried to convince the politicians from actually using them as a weapon. For the most part science has improved the quality of life..yet some people still just don't get it.
We need to openly discuss how and why we are being cooked alive by Stratospheric aerosol spraying also known as 'chemtrails' as I have seen this program progress over 15 years now.
It is truly stupefying how this event is either ignored or swept away as mere contrails. I know the difference! When I first noticed this, I contacted several agencies to inquire about the spraying and I was always dismissed, as a whatever. You hear arguments about climate change all the time without one mention of this global assault! That makes all discussions invalid and moot. I have never heard any of your guests speak to this. The silence is deadening.
You can call it stratospheric aerial spraying or ‘chemtrails’ but not geo-engineering, as the term geo-engineering is being pushed as a campaign to fight global warming. These chemtrails are inducing global warming and global dimming of sunlight!

Quote Mark Saulys: Alice, I'm sorry to pour cold water on everything but I have to say I am against domestication of animals in general, it is only an enslavement and captivity of them that historically lead to the domestication of other people with slavery, patriarchy, etc..
Mark Saulys ~ First of all, no need to apologize. You're not a 'buzzkill'. A very interesting perspective. Let me begin my response by assuring you that all our cats are considered by my wife and myself as full fledged members of the family. If there are any slaves living in our house I assure you it is my wife and myself. We clean their litter boxes, comb their fur, make sure they have food and water, play with them, open the door for them, and pay all their bills. Meanwhile our little furry friends live like kings and queens without a care in the world. They participate in all the activities that your cat did; except, they no longer are driven by the overbearing urge to procreate. If they were, and if they did, I assure you their existence would no longer be as pleasant or as long.
Quote Mark Saulys: I am against making animals (cats) into living couch pillows or parlour ornaments - I am against cats being fixed. Cat's that are fixed only care about eating and sleeping and had been ideally modified for that (couch pillow, parlour ornament) purpose..
"Only care about eating and sleeping?" My friend, you just described my ideal vacation. This is a bad thing? This is equitable to slavery? Perhaps the cats would be happier if I got them a job washing dishes or cleaning garbage? I doubt that because they don't seem the least bit interested in cleaning out their own litter boxes or even helping me carry the 30 lb bags of cat food I buy every month from the truck to the garage.
You are probably right about it not being kind to fix these animals. A small part of me always regrets knowing that a wonderful pet that I've had for decades will never be able to reproduce and pass those wonderful genes along. Then I find an even better little furry companion and forget about it.
The fact of the matter Mark is that we have already changed the environment of these little creatures. Unless we control their population they have no chance to adapt to it and survive. What once worked perfectly in the wild doesn't have a chance of succeeding in the big city. What I offer, to a few, is a happy and long life. We have a beautiful backyard and all the cats have the run of it. My wife built little kitty houses all over our property so the cats have a place to go when it rains or if they are being chased, or just want to take a nap in the shade. There are also litter boxes all over the property that are well maintained and always fresh. There are also a plethora of toys and plants that they love to play with. We're also not stingy with the catnip. When I look at my animals I almost wish I was one of them.
Quote Mark Saulys:There is, also, no small element of cruelty in taking a kitten from its mother. I've heard that when a mother cat has its last kitten taken from her she walks through the house crying and looking for them behind every corner.
I can't say I've ever heard of that happening before. Perhaps because I've never owned a domesticated breed. All the cat's I've ever owned were already abandoned by their mother. The vast majority of the cats I presently own were literally carried to my doorstep from across the street by their own mother. Three litters worth. That's why we named the first three kittens Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria. The only time she cried was when I finally trapped her ass. Now she lives together in bliss and harmony with her now grown kittens in my yard. After being fixed they live in a perpetual child like state. They eat, play, go potty, sleep, and repeat. They live only to enjoy life, freedom, and fun without a care in the world. They are free to roam about as they wish; yet, always stay near home by choice. You could also say that they are now living together happily ever after. The End!
Alice, I'm sorry to pour cold water on everything but I have to say I am against domestication of animals in general, it is only an enslavement and captivity of them that historically lead to the domestication of other people with slavery, patriarchy, etc.. I believe, therefore, that if you bring an animal to live with you you must treat it properly and not exploitatively - almost, if not exactly, like another human member of the household. Call me crazy but I think that if more people were crazy like that the world would be better. I really don't think you should do anything abusive to them for the sake of your own comfort or convenience. I don't think you should do anything to them that you wouldn't do to your own children as they are trusted in your care..
I am against making animals (cats) into living couch pillows or parlour ornaments - I am against cats being fixed. Cat's that are fixed only care about eating and sleeping and had been ideally modified for that (couch pillow, parlour ornament) purpose.. I had a tom that I wouldn't allow to be fixed, he loved life (I really think they shouldn't have taken Freud out of the curriculum). He looked just like Higgins but was raised properly - not in a fraternity house - and he was very intelligent, polite and kind. He didn't like to fight, he just wanted to run through our backyard studying insect zoology. He was fascinated with rather than frightened by mechanical things and really seemed to want to know how they worked. He would be all over them, obviously trying to figure them out. I have no doubt that if he had had opposable thumbs he would have taken our automatic garage door opener apart and put it back together in an improved design. He would try to imitate human speech when trying to communicate with us making sounds remeniscent of "cooing" and "echolalia", the types of sounds infant humans make when in an early level of speech development. Anyway, he was a stark contrast to a fixed cat.
There is, also, no small element of cruelty in taking a kitten from its mother. I've heard that when a mother cat has her last kitten taken from her she walks through the house crying and looking for them behind every corner.
So even though Marc's my main man I disagree with him that animals exist for our pleasure. That's, after all, what white men down south, long ago, would say about women and African Americans.
Kend - Pelosi's comment was in recognition of the fact that the Senate and House bills would immediately go to a reconciliation committee which was free to change any provision in order to effect 'reconciliation.' Seems to me the committee has too much power but them's the rules. I think it should be noted that ACA is an INSURANCE (not a medical practice) program which still works through the corrupt private health insurance morass. A bad approach to begin with, no doubt, but that was what could get the votes at the time. Your point about budgets -- much of the cost of the U.S. healthcare non-system is external to the governmental budget so even in the event costs are contained, internalizing those new costs make budgets larger for awhile.
And by the way, there are many people who, at one time, were believers in all that hocus pocus who are now atheists. One person was a devote evangelical preacher starting when he was a young boy. He totally believed and spent his young adult life very active in trying to proselytize other people into his religious belief system. He was also a very talented music composer and pianist who composed religious songs...many for children. Many are still sung today by religious groups. As he continued to study and read a diverse and broad spectrum of literature...he came to realize the problem with believing the way he did before...and now is an atheist. He, along with his atheist wife formed an organization that fights religion bullies who push their beliefs system on the public by violating the separation of church and state. The Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) has a web site: www.ffrf.org
Quote psychologytoday.com:That NDEs happen isn't in dispute. The sequence and type of events of which they're composed are similar enough among people who report them that NDEs could be considered a syndrome of sorts akin to a disease lacking a known cause. But just because millions of people have experienced NDEs doesn't mean the most commonly believed explanation for them—that souls leave bodies and encounter God or some other evidence for the afterlife—is correct. After all, people misinterpret their experience all the time (an optical illusion representing the most basic example). Without a doubt, many people who report NDEs are profoundly affected by them, but usually more as a result of their interpretation of the experience (i.e., the afterlife is real) than as a result of the experience itself. It turns out, however, that a number of reproducible observations combined with a bit of conjecture yield an entirely plausible neurological explanation for all the reported experiences that comprise NDEs.
--------------
Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of NDEs is how often they're associated with out-of-body experiences. This, too, however, turns out to be an illusion. Evidence that out-of-body experiences have nothing to do with souls leaving bodies can be found in the observation that they've also been reported by people just awakening from sleep, recovering from anesthesia, while fainting, during seizures, during migraines, and while at high altitudes (there's no reason to think the souls of people are leaving their bodies during any of those non-life-threatening situations). But the most fascinating evidence that out-of-body experiences are neurological phenomena comes from studies initially performed in the 1950s by a neurosurgeon named Penfield. He was interested in figuring out how to distinguish between normal brain tissue and brain tumors or scars that were responsible for causing seizures. So he stimulated the brains of hundreds of awake patients in an effort to map the cerebral cortex and figure out where in our brains our physical body is represented.

Quote psychologytoday.com:
Neurologists have since recognized that the temporoparietal region of the brain is responsible for maintaining our body schema representation. When external current is applied to this region, it ceases to function normally and our body schema "floats." Further evidence that this phenomenon is an illusion comes from experiments in which people who've had out-of-body experiences when transitioning from sleep to wakefulness were unable to identify objects placed in the room after they'd fallen asleep, strongly suggesting the picture they viewed of themselves sleeping in their beds was reconstructed from memory.
So Kend, are you then for it or against it? The "Republican guy that ran against Obama" tried it in a single state first, like you recommended, with stellar results. It was also the Heritage Foundation plan.
The Red State doughnut hole is called the "Red State doughnut hole" because it's in the Red States, Kend. It's because the Republican governors refused to implement the plan. This is all because we had to please conservatives. We had to take out the pulic option, which would have closed any doughnut hole or loop hole, for Lieberman to vote for it because we needed every Democrat and Independent vote in the Senate as the Republicans vowed a filibuster.
Kend, you're such a loveable clown. We love havin' you around 'cause you're so easy to trounce.
Bet you don't even realize you've been trounced half the time, eh Kend?
Doghnut holes are a divisive Red State strategy designed to create a resentment as Medicaid before created "middle class resentment" against the poor when some middle class people, barely unable to afford health insurance, were too well off for Medicaid means tested qualifications. Single payer would eradicate that making everybody qualified.
Gov Scott & his ilk do not care about hard working folks, just their powerful billionaires pals & cohorts. All one has to do is look at GOP policies...they are anti middle class - anti poor but very PRO Wealth. Same for 30 yrs of Reaganomics / deregulation which favors large corps , and the super rich. Bit by bit US laws & policies have driven down wages, crushed labor unions & tried to take away womens health choices / access to birth control. Guess the GOP leaders want more moms to have babies they can not afford or care for properly.
Lemme tell ya somethin', Pali boy. I don't have a need to have everybody think as I do. I just have my opinions and that's it, you're more than welcome to yours. In fact, I'm never even convinced I'm right about anything or, at least, that I can't be wrong. I've been an atheist before, now I'm not. I actually don't know that I'm better off for not being one. I think there may well be a reason why we're not born knowing some things. Whatever works for you is whatever works for you, as far as I'm concerned. If you don't find out the truth this time maybe you will next go 'round - or maybe you don't even need to find out. Maybe it's not for you or any of us to know.
Although the near death experience is very, very common (and this is borne out by research). I've never had one but I know many, many people who have and almost all of them were very common people, many, common laborers who were barely literate and had no words for the experience and certainly weren't caught up in any New Age hype. Often they kept it to themseves for years for fear people would think they were crazy or just wouldn't understand - and yet, they felt a great need to tell people about it. Anyway Pali, follow your mind and heart where they take you - sure can't follow someone else's - and remember that everybody's not like you - and that everybody doesn't have to be. Take care buddy
COMMODITIES TRADERS are tainting the food availability, cost problem.
We need to grow food gardens if we have space or demand it be available like rooftop gardens for apartment dwellers. And those who don't have space need to demand THE COMMONS -- public or community space to grow food.
CUBA is the outstanding example of successful use of space to grow food locally making long distance transport unnecessary! Learn about it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIWsxo5nNgg

☛ Many Essential Nutrients Found in Hemp Seed July 27, 2000
By Nancy Ross Ryan - Chicago Tribune

Using the square peg of science on the round hole of politics costs much in legal fees, and is rarely anything but a failure as this latest publicity stunt proves.

Hello Thom

The End!
Sorry, had to fix a typo.
Sorry to be a buzzkill.

We can't allow the rights of a corporation to trump the rights of its employees.
GOP SO Why is there always money for wars, bombs, killing & corps cuts, perks, subsides, loopholes ?
