I suggest making a silk purse from a sow's ear (sad for sow). Many of us have to. Still waiting for the elderly to guide us. Mb Teddy, FDR, or even Eisenhower again

    Hey there -

I would like to add something to the Monsanto "legal pass" debate. And this may be something to follow up on for the show.

I was listening to PRI's "The World" mb 2 days ago. It was about what is killing bees world-wide ( http://www.theworld.org/2013/03/europe-bee-populations-in-decline-debate... ). They are looking at Monsanto. The interview took place in Spain. GMO's and the insecticide component may be to blame. These plants are raised from seeds modified to create " Neonics " , basically neurotoxins. The research ( as far as this interview said ) shows that these neuro disrupters show up in the entire plant and flower. I don't remember if they said it showed up in the bee's honey but their observations said the workers were not doing their job and they observed a reduction in queens born. This research is ongoing.

Now we have recently a "Monsanto is Never Guilty" rider passed in an appropriations/ 6 month budget bill. Think about it- if the neurotoxins are in the flower and killing bees, then what if the final products of which we ingest are also tainted ? If it is proven that the modified production of neurotoxins are killing bees then the next step is to test the effects on humans. Are the neurotoxins metabolized in the human body? If so- what is the half life? If not, how fast does it accumulate in an adult body and does it get passed and accumulate even further over generations? Remember DDT? Eagles dying?

Monsanto has much to worry about here and I think they may hope they can sneek this into a permanent bill in the long run.

Remember Neurotoxins are also known as Neuro Disruptors.

Neurotoxins do not discriminate- just like "dogs of war (Pink Floyd)".

    Be Well.

akunard ~ With all do respect please disregard the previous post. I've decided to discontinue my activity on this Blog. I've just explained my reasoning to MMmmNACHOS with this post:

MMmmNACHOS ~ My friend! Keeping my spirits up is easier said than done! I too am considering taking a break from this Blog. I don't think I can stand much more of the negativity. Besides, I've stated everything I need to say. It's there in the archives if anyone is interested. I'm quite tired of repeating myself. I'd prefer to think of myself as a Heavenly Counselor then a Parrot. Besides, at the risk of repeating myself, there is that Biblical quote that I've all but worn out on this Blog:

Matthew 7:6 Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.

Perhaps it is time for me to listen to my own advice. Shortly, I will be joining you and AliceInWonderland in anonymity. I may return in the future; but, I don't promise anything. Life is too short to put up with this crap. Take care MMmmNACHOS! I will miss you and all my other fellow comrades! Tah! Tah!

We don't even have a representetive republic any more, we have a plutocracy, a government ruled by money not by the people. The "voting" system is controled by big corporations, the "electoral collage" and "winner takes ALL votes" has shut out "third" parties. I see no peaceful, legal way to change the injustice that now controls this country.

Obama promissed "change" but all we got was yet a worse version of "Bush",. Corporations literally get away with murder, they destroy our land, air and water and we are taxed to pay for the clean up, the rich continue to get obscenly richer while the 95% get poorer and even what meager social programs we still have are up for cuts while our illegal wars grow in bloodshed.

The worlds worse "terrorist" is the USA, not the poor men who are trying to oppose our cruel occupation of their country. What possible path is available to change our criminal, unjust course?

Thanks DANNEMARC...I like your tact. ;)
I think I am gonna take a break from blogs for a bit.

Best of luck, keep your spirit up.

akunard ~ I'm sorry again. You are so much more ahead of us all, sometimes, I have a hard time following you. Forgive me; but, as they say, the only dumb questions are the one's we don't ask. So here goes:

You said, "Bush did it. Barry can do no wrong."

My question. Who is Barry? You're not talking about 'Barry Soetoro' are you?

  • Monsanto doesn't need any more protection!   12 years 8 weeks ago

Look closer, Bush did it. Barry can do no wrong.

Steve Figler ~ wrote: " We are stuck in a self-aggrandizing, yet ultimately self-destructive system. It is the law of the jungle led by short-sightedly stupid animals."

Steve please don't compare our politicians to "short-sightedly stupid animals"... Thats a terrible insult to short-sightedly stupid animals.

By the way, in your picture, you look like you're fishing; and, by the smile on your face, it looks like their biting. Catch one for me, buddy.

“Monsanto Protection Act?”- It ought to be to protect US, not THEM. Can the world get any more senseless?

  • Monsanto doesn't need any more protection!   12 years 8 weeks ago

Thom ~ I can see members of Congress acting stupid--they're not acting; but, you? Obviously Congressional legislation isn't being written by Congressmen. Laws are being written by Corporate Lawyers and then delivered to the Congressmen who sign their name to it. That's why everyone in Congress is shaking their heads as to how that stipulation got stuffed into the bill. It was always there and no one even cared to read the damn thing before they casted their preassigned votes for it. What a dirty scam this Government has become.

Why then should we expect any more from our leaders. After all, they vote the same way we do--flip a coin and hope for the best. Who has time to look closely at what you're voting for. I guess in a way we got what we deserve--citizens who don't read anything and vote with reckless abandon elected a bunch of nincompoops that also don't read anything and vote with reckless abandon. At least the Lawyers working for Monsanto are paying attention to what they are doing. Their laughing all the way to the bank! "Let them eat ????"

We really do have a fascistic state now. The corporations dictate and the politicians pander to them.

We need a revolution - campaign finance reform, no corporate personhood, no more lobbyists having incredible power over the politicians.

I know it will never change, though.

    I grieve for our children.

Capitalism at its most capitalistic. We expect nothing less. We have unenforced laws supposed to control capitalism's predations (Sherman and Clayton), but they were put into a drawer by a supposed Democrat. We now have a president who allowed voters to believe things would be different. In not following through and continuing his rhetoric, he is worse than the other side. We are stuck in a self-aggrandizing, yet ultimately self-destructive system. It is the law of the jungle led by short-sightedly stupid animals. Blessings on us all.

To much Corporate $$$$ in the pockets of politicians to make the changes the average voter wants. I wonder how these politicians are going to feel when the hybred weeds from these type of crops take over the farmland? Check it out it is a problem for some already. http://www.ucsusa.org/food_and_agriculture/our-failing-food-system/genetic-engineering/environmental-effects-of.html

    America is very strange indeed

Not only wage war all over the place for economic reason

But, find business excuse to harm human beings

All for profit and the shareholder... naturally!?!?

    Democratically it's okay though!

    Did Rome burn?

This is a tough one. Without this act anyone can stop the sale of millions of acres of corn being sold because they say they are getting a headache from eating that corn, only to find out later there was no problem with it.

On the other hand they could be killing people with there food And if so the should be held accountable.

Obama is a master of avoiding the difficult problems. Just slide it in a large bill and take off golfing and hope no one notices it. I don't know what you guys see in him.

To the argument that having an armed citizenry will stop a tyrannical government. I have one response: Belgium 1914. Though they tried, the citizen snipers of Belgium did more to inflame the problems incurred by a military marching across the countryside.

  • Daily Topics - Friday March 29th, 2013   12 years 8 weeks ago

Caller made the claim that 2nd Amendment was created for the purpose of people protecting themselves from a tyrannical government. That was never the purpose of the 2nd Amendment! In fact, taking up arms against the US government is treason! Those who arm themselves against their fear of the government are not patriots loyal to their country. They ignore the fact that the government IS the country. Thom pointed out how stupid doing this was and he's correct. These gun hoarders would be no match for the US government or their state governments. But they also would be committing treason. They're traitors. Call them what they are.

For the guy who want guns to defend a tyranical government, you should ask how he defines tyrany. Is torture tyrany? Is extra-judicial executive approved assassination of US citzens tyrany? Drones?

Perhaps if people could chose who they form an emotional bond with that we sometimes refer to as "love", this discussion wouldn't even be taking place. People love deeply whom they love.

The secrets revealed on death beds reveal more than most people can imagine.

"God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him." 1John 4:16. You may take that literally, It's a core teaching for all of Christendom. Christians should probably stop slapping God in the face.

IN the New Testament, the basis of Christianity, Paul is used to condemn homosexuality. The writings of Paul were addressed to specific problems within specific churches...in Romans, prostitution by both sexes. A carry-over of non-Christian religious practices.

Paul became an Apostle after the crucifiction. He was never directly taught by Jesus. John was.

There is a saying, "First Paul overcame Peter, then he overcame Christ." Contradictions to the teachings of Jesus are rampant in his writings. That's where the hatreds and bigotries of Christians come from.

"God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him." 1John 4:16. You may take that literally, It's a core teaching for all of Christendom. Christians should probably stop slapping God in the face.

So let me get this straight, Halliburton doesn't want a competitor to find out which toxins its using so the competitor can poison us as well. Hmmmm.. That Dick Cheney, what a joker...

Palindromedary ~ What is your problem? As far is that one incident is concerned I assure you that was something I've never been drunk enough to write. I do suspect someone on this blog of doing it; but, it wasn't you. I prefer to leave it at that because I intend to give that person enough rope to hang themselves. (BTW I'm fairly confident I know exactly who did it.) I'm sorry if I said I suspected you but I was in shock when I read it the first time. Please forgive me. It's no fun having ones identity compromised and I hope it never happens to you. I've always appreciated your attempt to intervene on my behalf.

Actually, I've enjoyed all our discussions immensely. In fact, I owe you a dept of gratitude. Your talk about drinking tea in the evening has compelled me to follow your lead. Right now I'm enjoying a large cup of tea. You have already inspired me to "stay off the juice" and I feel better than ever as a result. I've not mentioned it before; but, I've always wanted to thank you for that.

As far as my so called "superstitions" are concerned, I suppose that you are just going to have to ignore them. I hope you realize that you can no more change my beliefs than I can change yours. I do try to keep them at a level of relevance to the subjects at hand; and, really do not like to resort to that type of argument unless I feel that the significance is sufficient enough to warrant it. It is what it is! I hope it doesn't offend you. However, if you can agree to respect my beliefs, I can certainly respect yours.

Life as we know it is in a binary system. So the reasoning goes man woman in marriage. Perhaps some think debate about gay stuff can be described by imaginary numbers. Be scientific and introduce all those mathematical concepts that reduce to the predator prey social economic model is traditional in today’s social money cultures. I think the argument is now we could consider it dangerous rather than normal to work within a homogenous blend within a heterosexual blend.

Homosexuals rearing children isn’t new. My experience as a young man first encountered this homosexual marriage concept in college about the time of my late teens. Then thinking nothing of it, curiously enough at the time it was very secretive stuff in the gay community. Even more so in the academic social sphere where partners declare among themselves as “married”. Here gay secret marriage was true deception of the regular so called straight system. I reject the bible condemnation of gays as a reason to be secret. The kicker in my experience was two male college teachers that where homosexual adopting a young man way back in the sixties. Better yet they were Cuban under the cover of being straight. Many feel a most elusive right to exist in a free society, yet we could say people without knowing things could go awry, like people laundering, similarly like banking money laundering.

After reflecting on it that secrecy stuff with gays about coming out is more than curious, there is some impact, and is gay a gift of transparency or reconciliation of gilt. From my view it is uncertain. One thing could be possible being flipped about creation might be the argument the life force wants. That’s not saying whether going for gay is good or bad. The arguments for this gay stuff need treatment from all ages not just the young American’s.
