If you speak to any of the old timers out here in Oklahoma about this Wall Street mess. You get one comment. Looks like Wall Street finished the job they started in 1934 when they tryed too over throw FDR and the US Government when SSI,CCC and the WPA was formed. They called it the "Business Plot" back then. The NYC police are acting like the Black Shirts of 1930's germany.
You have to remember, those congress people are also millionaires and are looking after their own hides PLUS there's that Norquist thing. What perplexes me is why Norquist hasn't been charged with bribery...that's exactly what he's doing. Who in H--- voted for him anyhoo?
Idiot cops attack any left-of-center protesters as if they were personal enemies. When will those fools learn that the "dirty hippies" they so despise are fighting to protect THEIR jobs, pensions and collective bargaining rights?
Imagine if cops went on "strike" and refused to brutalize peaceful protesters. It would mean the end of ruling class power.
Imagine if those NYC sanitation workers went on "strike" by refusing to take the private property of the protesters.

I only voted no because depiste 100 Republicans who say they are backing away from the Grover Norquist pledge telling them to raise taxes, they'll not do it. This super committee was probably the dumbest idea they've come up with yet. As A Democratic Committee member we put forth a motion tonight, I seconded it and we voted. And this after a 5 minute debate. That's how it's done Congress. Start listening to the people and not your rich campaign donors or you'll find yourself in the unemployment line next year. I've committed myself to this end working from the inside.

For everybody to report using their cellphones and utilizing the thousands of free utube channels is a smart idea. Imagine, getting excited, for instance, about a wedding of which 60 million was spent, whilst the people of England could not afford much more than a few hundred on their own weddings, if even that.
Imagine, getting excited about the far reaching education of both William and Harry, when the young college men and women cannot even finish their education. As it stands, the People of England cannot even educate their own young, but are to pay 60 million for a one day wedding, to excite the newlyweds of England. If Prince William was any sort of King material, he would certainly have stated: "Thank you! But I decline such extravagance on behalf of myself and my fiance, and instead will take the majority of the money and put it toward education for you, the Peoples of England, to greatly lower the tuition fee."
If the Royals of England are not careful, they are likely to see a repeat of Marie Antoinette and King Louis XVI. Though King Louis XVI told the French people of his heart toward them and would not lift a finger against his "enemies", in France, the peoples could no longer hear their king and the French Revolution was the result.

Also remember protests should be directed against the foreign based Federal Reserve, for they are at the seat of most of the trouble of these United States of America. Why? Because they charge interest, which is usury on the nation's debt against the taxpayers of these United States of America.
Your suggestion in clogging the courts would not necessarily "be a good way to put this moment in time in the permanent record" for those who sit over the courts and over the Judges and Lawyers, have a way of either altering the court records or disappearing unwanted records altogether, as they try to do with over 5000 books of American culture, history etc. In addition to this, this idea generates untold wealth for lawyers, most of whom when they graduate from Law School find out very quickly just how difficult it is to get anywhere as a practicing lawyer when they wish to fight for the legal rights of a citizen within the Law of the Constitution. - Cygnus1
Yes they have the right to occupy public lands also known as the commons that belong to all of us.
In consequence of the Civil War, the Constitution was amended three times. I don't see why, now, we shouldn't have one for campaign finance regulation, one for corporate non-personhood, one to say money isn't speech, etc.

What about a progressive Grover Norquist style campaign for both parties, to Get Big Money out of Government?
A pledge to never raise taxes is about as smart as a pledge to never turn left when driving. (Two wrongs don't make a right, but three lefts will ;-)
This on the other hand would be a valid philosophy and goal. It won't happen until a good majority of those in government go along with it and none will stand up alone. Maybe a pledge to go along whenever there is a critical mass would make it easier to stand up and be counted.
Then there would be a clear indicator for voters to look at. The tactic has been terribly effective for the Republican ideologues. Is there any reason the progressive movement shouldn't use that tactic for something that is more a moral question?
Yes, there would be pressure from current donors to not participate, but in the end all donors would be back on a level playing field..
I suppose to overturn Citizens United would take a constitutional amendment with all that entails. A pledge could actually have its effect if politicians could agree to turn down the money, though the super pacs would still exist.. One step at a time; let's see where each politician stands.

Thom and Louise, excellent post! Thom Hartmann gave excellent advice also when he suggested the removal of legal personhood from corporations and financial institutions. Once personhood from these institutions is removed, then they will be no longer able to "legally" bulldoze over the rights of individual people, including the 99%, of these United States of America.
When this has been accomplished, not "if" but "when" and as the old system becomes torn down and replaced by the transitional system, then the Peoples of these United States of America, will be well on their way to rebuilding Paradise, and there will then, be not one single citizen who will be left in need for anything. - Cygnus1

I just called Thom this morning and he gave me great feedback. He suggested that what needs to be done to end this money soaked political system is to get Congress to clearly restrict the definition of personhood in the Constitution to refer only to NATURAL persons. That ends corporate personhood and we can then restrict the rights of corporations. Best of all, it's simple and poetic like "We are the 99%". We The "Natural" People are fighting a new revolution to make government for us and by us once again. I know that's why Thom refers to the Occupiers as Patriots.
