Just who are they all trying to save? How can we be broke? How can we be in debt? If you can just print the money for war , why not print your way out of debt. Just print it and pay the debt. Simple ! There is no debt, Print Print..

It's horrifying to watch the asininity of their subjugation as the republican/tea party clowns continue marching brainwashed and instep with a few rich egocentric sociopaths.

Privitization with anti-union sentiment, just like trickle down economics, is a big freaking lie started by elite sociopaths, and used to facilitate redistribution of working class wealth, into a relatively small number of tax dodging offshore bank accounts.

    Wise up Flori-duh!

@Dianhow: How do you excuse Obama's appointing the very same people who wrecked the economy in the first place? How do you excuse Obama's giving away trillions of dollars to those same people who robbed us? How do you excuse Obama's constant "just trying to get along" mentality when it is obvious to most people that the Republicans will never just get along?

I agree that many of the cards were stacked against Obama, having inherited a real mess from the Bush regime but aside from a couple of times when Obama stood up to redress the Republicans he still ended up giving away the store and the ruling elite got what they wanted anyway. Let's see how hard he fights for the executive order that is talked about in Gerald's link. It's one thing to assassinated an old man, OBL, and 22 other people but our President needs to assassinate (figuratively speaking that is) some real enemies to the majority of the people in the US...more people like the one they just arrested...the Hedge Fund crime lord.

    Right on, Delster, you know!

  • Republicans in Florida are now privatizing their union-busting efforts...   14 years 10 weeks ago

    @Gerald:
Thanks for the link. "An executive order being considered by President Obama......." ok, we'll see if Obama will again sell out to the Republicans. Anything that Obama can (will) do before the election will help. I hope he succeeds and the criminals in the Chamber of Commerce and Carl Rove can just take a hike....but I'd rather see more of them in jail where they belong.

Looks like they managed to sack a hedge fund crime lord.....heh, heh, heh! There are a lot more that needs to be caught and thrown in the clink.

The differential in wealth between business owners who outsource and to the workers displaced as a result of their outsourcing is enormous. Germany protects their skilled labor and it shows. Americans are doing nothing but eating their own young. It is a ridiculous policy that has destroyed the moral fiber

of our nation encouraging greed for the individual who has built a fortune by practicing treason against national well being. Policies of lobbying congressman and officials remind me of the Boardwalk series.

Corporations are the main concern in America, and by their activity they are the new government. Workers are subject to the corporate constitution and they must tow the line under that administration lest they wind up being dismissed, black balled, and disenfranchised from self sufficiency. Much like Mendenhal when he dared exercise his free speech on twitter and was fired from Hanes /champion.

This is a corporate government, corporate company store, and corporate cast system. Democracy died somewhere along the line while we were watching some stupid sitcom on TV, or a superbowl,

or video game, or MTV. Unions were the last line of defense against an oligarchy bent on controlling

everything and everyone. Big corporate money at least had some competition with pay rates and benefits guaranteed by collective bargaining. Pressure from well paid union workers encouraged workers to seek better pay or vote a union in their own plant. That was a good thing. This is not the same nation I was born in. It has become a hell hole for coke snorting high wheeling corporate cavaliers who have one self interested concern. Themselves.

thanks for giving me the opportunity to print my opinion. i, like millions of americans, was uneducated about our constitution until i went to college and studied in criminal justice class with a bunch of cops. they are well aware of their ability to violate ordinary citizens civil rights and they do make a practioce of doing so with the expectation of the ordinary citizens ignorance when it comes to knowing about the constitution. we should fire half the cops and stop america from continuing to become a massive police state. another movement they have been brainwashing their new and young cadets with is- disarming the public and claiming that the 'well aremed militia ' is the 'national guard'. check the NRA website- every nation that has disarmed their citizens has committed mas genocide. this is what they think and would like to do so they can create a society of terrorized robots who are 'afraid to make waves'. get rid of half the cops; most of them are corrupt anyway. i know because i worked with them and saw first hand how they cover-up for corrupt activities that their 'brothers become involved with either for sex, mpney, favortism, climbing the ladder of success by being a 'team player'.

Not only does he violate the constitution of the united states by continuing this b.s. war on terrorism and continuing the homeland security act, susan collins of maine authored it after swearing to uphold and defend the united states constitution like the rest of the corrupt a.h.'s we elected only to find they all bend over to shove corporate dollar bills where the sun don't shine. it's too bad the many don't band together to get the few out of our hair once and for all in order to have the government run by the people and for the people. are most of us americans dumb or what?the u.s. constitution is very clear about the two tear limit for funding war. i believe this is why public schools do not teach our children the u.s. constitution; they don't want people to know that they continuously violate the very document they are sworn to uphold and to defend. patriot act - my ass.

You seem to forget that workers in the private sector are people too. The cost of doing business in our country has gotten far to expensive and have made us uable to compete in the global market. This has led every company that could to go outside the US to have products manufactured. I do recognise that there are some companies that take advantage of this, but the vast majority of business are small to medium size and do not have the financial where with all to keep themselves competitive.

If each state can reduce their costs that would benefit the majority and allow smaller businesses to put money into their operations. The union leaders have been screwing the taxpayers with no regard to the state of affairs our economy is in. Our government at nearly every level has not done the proper policing of the market place and has allowed fraudsters and criminals get away with bundles of cash and has not held them accountable.

If people want jobs in the government sector they have to accept the fact that their jobs are political and come and go at the will of our misinformed public.

Steve Maley was lying his pasty white backside off.

The 93% of American drillers that are ‘independents’ are individual separate corporate entities created specifically to run single sites or wells in an effort mitigate potential losses due to environmental or liability issues. The lie lays in . . . WHAT CORPORATE ENTITIES OWNS THOSE ‘independents’?

He was arguing that oil industry corporations deserve guaranteed profits no matter what happens in the universe AND a perpetual happy-ending hand-out from the government. This is WAY worse than just plain old corporate welfare.

Education in this country is turning into a corporate-controlled industry.

For example, in the St Petersburg Times:

"A conservative billionaire who opposes government meddling in business has bought a rare commodity: the right to interfere in faculty hiring at a publicly funded university.

"A foundation bankrolled by Libertarian businessman Charles G. Koch has pledged $1.5 million for positions in Florida State University's economics department. In return, his representatives get to screen and sign off on any hires for a new program promoting 'political economy and free enterprise.'"

    Thom

Last night on frontline. The topic was night raides in Afghanistan, and the one thing that I believe necessary before we pull out of Afghanistan is the Taliban need to set at the table. When Osama bin Laden destroyed property and lives in the United States, we were drawn into conflict, with an unconventional enemy in an unfamiliar theater. Forget George Bush leaving Afghanistan to simmer on the back burner and spoil while heading off to Iraq, In another conquest. The problem is still the same as long as the Taliban and Al Qaeda area a vague whisper on the winds of history with out a physical structure and hierarchy. They cannot be dealt with in an honorable fashion or trusted. So in answer to your question today, however distasteful and costly. This war has become, in the end it was all for not. If we cannot face a structured opponent and deal with them in the same fashion as any other conflicts in our past. Someone needs to be accountable. Someone needs to negotiatebefore we leave Afghanistan without some sort of consensus and accountability. It was a waste and a loss.

  • Has our morality decayed so much that we rejoice banksters making millions in bonuses & yell about teachers earning a mere 50K?   14 years 10 weeks ago

So many people today are still saying what great things Ronnie did for Cal. and the US. I lived in Cal. when he destroyed public education there and then continued the destruction when he became President. He should have gone to jail for all the criminal acts he managed as the pres. The right wing is trying to complete the destruction he started. dianhow your comments were so correct, but the vast majority of Americans don't want to believe it. People Dorothy didn't go to the land of Oz, but so many of the people have their heads there. We need more people getting out the word about what these people are doing. Cut the taxes on the rich so we can fire more teachers to pay for it.

Teachers are part of the foundation of our civilization. The quality of our teachers and our education system determines the quality of our culture and civilization. Teachers should be among the most highly esteemed professions and well compensated for their contribution to our civilization.

CEO's are another matter altogether. To be fair, I'm sure that there must be CEO's that are quality human beings and fulfill a useful purpose. There must be......Judging however by the current crop, as a group they are the sorriest bunch of slimeballs, thieves, and sociopaths imaginable. By virtue of their greedy self-serving plundering of every aspect of life on Earth in which they have influence, they have caused the term "CEO" to become almost a curse word. Of course the proliferation of the ubiquitos sociopath/CEO is the symptom of a tsunami of greed sweeping through the boardrooms of the corporations of the world. The Sociopath/CEO, being the highly paid thug, directing the plunder of everything within reach, to fill the pockets of the board of directors/shareholders.

In my opinion, the ongoing plunder of the educational system is simply a continuation of the mindless plundering of everything to satisfy the endless greed of unimaginably rich people driven mad by the unholy power of huge concentrations of WEALTH. In a way it's analogous to the formation, and behaviour of black holes. Once the concentration of mass reaches a certain limit, the overpowering force of gravity takes on a life of it's own. In the same way perhaps huge concentrations of wealth take on a life and power of their own which those within the reach of it's influence are powerless to resist.

To those of us outside the "force field", the folly is unmistakeable, and illogical. Those under the influence of the irresistible pull are unable to see their folly.

A great teacher- priceless, but should receive at least as much as an American Express ad creative department head.

CEO's are worth their actual Intelligence Quotient X a fair percentage of stockholder dividends, such percentage as to be agreed upon and determined from time to time by a Board of at least 9-10 Directors who must also be subscribed stockholders, less the sum of benefits which have been reduced for all employees of the corporation, year to year.

My wife has dedicated her entire career to the teaching profession, almost 30 years and counting. She has run Head Start programs, is NYS certified in special ed., with a masters in elementary education. With all this she is currently taking an additional course to expand her credentials. Her so called summer vacation will be spent running a reading program at our local small town library. She never complains, and always comes home crying the last day of school because of her attachment to the kids. I would say she's lucky if her salary breaks down to minimum wage given all the hours she puts in. I can't even get her to participate in this blog, she's busy writing for her course work. I wish she could find time to teach me how to write, anyway she is a progressive.

Back to the question, what is a CEO worth, what is a teacher worth? My career experience with a CEO amounted to 17 years of working for and watching my company's CEO fight 7 DWI's, divorce, dump his new girlfriend and marry her daughter, play golf frequently during work hours, and travel to Europe a lot, among other things. Thank goodness the last 14 years I've been lucky enough to work in a nonprofit setting involving human services.

It's pretty clear to me, good teachers are priceless, CEO's are anywhere from enormously overpaid to being outright worthless parasites only good at inflicting economic terror on working class citizens.

All I have to say is that, it is the American MIDDLE class who voted in all those tea bag GOP representatives and all those repug Senators and Governors, who are now collectively trying to destroy EVERYTHING Democratic in America!

Medicare - Social Security - Education - Unions - Voting Rights! Lots more!

Now the Middle Class is reaping the whirlwind! They had no clue this was coming - this is what happens when you have a supposed educated class whose critical thinking process borders on the minimal! What did they expect?

Before this is all over, Americans will be in a much worst position than they were 2 years ago.

Right now, the Middle Class has the worst possible group of elected officials it has representing them in maybe 2 or 3 generations ( I would say Moronic)! And they are in a frenzy to destroy everything that the Middle Class has won and worked for since 1932! And doing it quickly before the Middle Class wake up from their snooze and enter a nightmare!

It simply amazes me how easy it is to ‘Fool” and “Manipulate” the Middle Class in America! That is why the fascist corporations and the new robber Banksters spend literally BILLIONs to manipulate and fool them. And this, when these Middle Class folk ALL had the benefit of a great education.

The Neo-cons want to end Public Education as we know it. If they can accomplish now what they can with an educated populace, imagine what they will accomplish when the populace is even less educated or radicalized with right wing ideology and fundamentalist religion! When the American people eventually wake up and realize what is really going on, it may very well be too late.
