  • Why the German economy is surging   13 years 29 weeks ago

My admiring the Germans doesn't go that far. I love the American worker -- many of them are good guys -- give 'em decent pay, let unions do their jobs! I assure you, the American workers will give something back to all of us then. They will do their best. So let 'em feel they're worth it, let 'em feel like human beings. Well, in case they read your lines here.... how must they feel? Oh well..... I know you don't mean it really that way. :)

Somewhere else you just wrote something on school drop-outs. Y'know, depressed workers raise depressed kids.

Love your neighbor, Americans! Appreciate your fellow Americans. Let them feel like worthy human beings.

    ___________________________

P:S.: My argumentation was rather aiming at German social standards for American workers. They're worth it too!

  • Will Mitt Romney win tomorrow night’s New Hampshire Primary?   13 years 29 weeks ago

I'd like to see Ron Paul win. He knows more than Mitt Romney. Mormons are always for the rich and don't actually care for non Mormons. This will be a huge problem and Mormons have a very strange bible. The actual bible they use is greatly diminished from the real bible. Only the Mormons that take the higher learning in the Mormon church get the real Mormon bible.

Mormons also keep secrets and lie a lot. I've known several so I know. They also like to get in fights and if they are in a Mormon town the police usually try to blame any problem or lie on the one who calls the police.

Ron Paul is on several finance committees and the chairman of one. He knows that America can never actually get out of debt as long as we pay interest on the money printed. It's a geometrically multiplied interest that just keeps getting bigger. America is getting in more and more debt all the time. It's at 15 trillion now. The Federal reserve assassinates presidents that come against them. Kennedy started printing money in 1960 with no interest attached to it. What our government paid for was the paper, ink, and labor cost. It was the paper money with the red circle on it where normal money says something about the U.S. Treasury around the greeen circle. Kennedy was shot dead 2 weeks later. Jackson called the bank that was printing our money in the early 1830s, thieves and vipers and was not going to use their services anymore once their contract ran out and it did while he was in office. The whole country was out of debt before Jackson was out of office. Pretty amazing. A gunman tried to kill Jackson on a staircase, but the two daringers the assassins used both mis-fired.

I like honest people like Ron Paul because he gets down to the route of the problems. And knows how to get to the route of the problems which mostly is our money system and that we also have to many wars that we can't afford so we print paper money and go in debt again over it. It is unconstitutional meddle in the affairs of other countries. Ron is like I said, honest. Other say they are pro life and don't believe in abortion, but the problem is that they blieve in wars that take many lives, so how is really prolife?

Many presidents say they are prolife but still abortion remains. Ron Paul says to overthrow the abortion law would be to change the juristiction of the law to the state courts and vote it down.

Ron Paul's advisory said that America will be in severe trouble in 4 years like Greece is today if we don't get out of debt. The other candidates usually avoid talking about interest rates.

And after I watch a debate that I am sure Ron Paul won, then the news comes on and says that Mitt Romney won. My family didn't think Mitt did well at all.

We need a man with the character of Abe Lincoln and Ron Paul is that. A humble man that is willing to give his life if he has to.

A good idea might be to have a Presidential panel instead of just one president. One president can't do everything.

Newt wants to get us producing energy in this country again. We need to so baddly. Where are our politician's heads at?

  • Why the German economy is surging   13 years 29 weeks ago

It's hilarious to me that people here are calling the Germans facist when we are now much closer to that system than they are. It is also hilarious to hear people trying to tear down the German government when they were essentially the only government that didn't crash and burn in 2008.

Their people live great lives. Great salaries, vacations and benefits. They have a fantastic educational system. Even better their workers are allowed to and even required by law to participae in the decision making process of the corporations which is one of the main reasons why the corps are so productive and the government so succesful over there. Incidently, multi-national means all of the corporations here are present in all of these other countries. They accept that workers participating in the process is actually more profitable there. They accept that universal healthcare is actually more succesful and much more beneficial over there. They also know through years of studies that O&G by-products cause cancer as do their drugs and the hormones we use in our food products. In fact many are outlawed in every country but ours.

The only reason those things are even allowed here is because these corporate leaders are lazy and greedy while killing this country. We have virtually the worst educational system, infrastructure, healthcare, governmental system (due to corruption), job availability etc., all because the corporate leadership is so poor. Wake up.

  • Are we are quickly becoming a nation of Independents?   13 years 29 weeks ago

Our country and its citizenry are on a collision course with reality. Any illusion, created by either major political Party, that there may be a light at the end of the tunnel, is nothing more than the headlamp from an oncoming speeding locomotive.

The 2-Party duopoly has managed to bring us to the brink of economic annihilation and has essentially merged to become the opposite sides of the same two-headed coin. With few exceptions, the duopoly has demonstrated that it serves the interests of corporate America and the self-interests of the elected officials.

Given the public’s distinctly negative perception of the current Congress, Washington’s gridlock, our national debt, the poor employment situation, our lopsided foreign trade, a questionable national health care law, the home foreclosure crisis, the Occupy movements, 15% nationwide poverty level, the war in Afghanistan, a threatening war with Iran and 40% of the electorate registered as unaffiliated, the elements for a ‘perfect storm’ are in place to create an independent surge. This surge is likely to continue for this election cycle and beyond.

Currently we are the only modern democracy that does not enjoy a multi-party governing body. It is exactly these multifaceted governments, often comprised of very diverse interests and agendas that drive the process forward. Third parties often act as an ombudsmen or catalyst for consensus building, which can mean the difference between achieving real progress or complete governmental paralysis. In reality, Washington’s black and white extremes do little to mirror the various shades of gray that represent the real America tapestry.

As founder of Independent Surge, http://IndependentSurge.org , I realized that independent and 3rd Party candidates needed a coalition to fight back against the well financed major Party Goliaths.

The coalition is made up of candidates from all walks of life, from all over the country, running for every political office in the land. They share a set of common principles, but predominantly are running for office to promote the interests of the 99% and dramatically increase transparency in government. They also share in the heartfelt belief that Lincoln’s words, …. government of the people, by the people and for the people - holds a true meaning that our nation should and must live by.

The public has come to realize that the same people that got us into this disaster haven’t a clue as to how to get us out. They’re looking for answers beyond the Madison Avenue sound-bites the two major Parties generously dole out.

Independent and 3rd Party candidates are waiting in the wings to be recognized, be heard and acknowledged. The all-too-often biased media makes that a nearly insurmountable task. The public should come to realize that these candidates stand ready to serve their country with compassion, dedication and fresh ideas to put our country back on course.

If it relieves you, I actually take on him:

    http://www.thomhartmann.com/blog/2012/01/why-german-economy-surging#comment-112861

Whether he's speaking as 1%er, like a 1%er, for the 1%ers -- whatsoever, it cannot be uncontradicted here as I feel. Or are you a fan of uncle Scrooge? (Who knows how many 16 years old occupiers dream of their personal morning money swim they might enjoy one day? :D)

And you? Um, you confused me, so I tried to understand. The only thing I understand.... very alien as I feel.... but it's relieving to understand this at least.... and that I probably won't be able to understand ever....

No, I don't plan on watching you furthermore. I'm actually watching Badams. If Thom feels like I'm watching Badams too thoroughly, he should give me a warning. Right now I feel, somebody has to watch his GOP propaganda....

  • Will Mitt Romney win tomorrow night’s New Hampshire Primary?   13 years 29 weeks ago

Yes, that was pretty funny. That was the first Republican debate I ever watched...most of it anyway...and I wouldn't have bothered had I not seen Ron Paul up there. I don't agree with some of the things that Ron Paul stands for but Ron Paul was the only one that made much sense. I hope he does run against Obama...because he is the only one who will force the real important issues out in the open...otherwise the real issues will be avoided.

I enjoyed the Thom Hartmann program today from Iceland. One thing that was a little awkward was the inability of Thom pronouncing Icelandic names...not that he can be blamed much..(does everyone in Iceland have names ending in jondotir?)....but what was that about the news report of a guy who (who looked like Jesus), who had been arrested by police, who changed his name to something ridiculous and then the guy sitting in for Thom made a joke about the guy getting back at police for having to pronounce his name....as the host was also having this difficulty.

Michael Hudson, the economist, has written a lot about Iceland's predicament.

Perhaps one way Iceland may be able to keep doctors in Iceland after they get all of that very inexpensive education is to charge them a great deal more for their education, and then tell them that if they stay in Iceland for a certain period of time working in the profession, they can work off their tuition..then they would be free to leave the country in search of wealth elsewhere.

One thing that stood out for me was that despite the multi-party system in Iceland, as was said by one Icelander on the show, the ruling elite controls them all and no one really represents the majority of the people. It is the same as what we have here in the US except that our system is primarily bullied by two major parties. Another thing that stood out was that Iceland's conservatives believe in universal healthcare and social programs.

I just recently watched a 2001 movie called "No Such Thing" which was about a young woman reporter who went to Iceland to find out what happened to her fiancee. It was about a monster, Robert John Burke, that murdered people, because he detested "humanity", and who couldn't be killed. It was kind of a Beauty and the Beast movie with an unusual twist on sex. There were a few jondotir actors in the movie and the monster was played by a guy who became a firefighter in NY after helping rescue people from the WTC towers on 911. Sarah Polley, the young woman, a well known and talented actor/director/political activist from Canada was really stunning in one scene.

  • Thom Hartmann: The Supreme Court has become a cancer on our Democracy   13 years 29 weeks ago

What IS the purpose of the Supreme Court, besides supporting the rich??

  • Are we are quickly becoming a nation of Independents?   13 years 29 weeks ago

Well, unfortunately (as demonstrated by election results), near all those "Independents" have actually just been corporate (R) & (D) party voters who chose not to register within the corporate (R) & (D) party, either so they could move back and forth between the corporate party's (R) & (D) factions, or merely to reduce the number of solicitations for their chump funding to match the corporate funding of their corporate party's Republican and Democrat faction candidates.

The insane comedic conflict between the corporate (R) & (D) party's really retrograde Republicans and its deeply depraved Democrats is a historically (intent upon ending human history) foolish factional fight over how best to continue corporate government's failed-state policies, so that our children will either have no future at all, or have no future worth having... the corporate (R) & (D) party's two 2012 choices.

Breaking news: Iranian scientists disprove Einstein, enter Iraq at "literally the speed of light".

  • Is the Corporate Media acknowledging the death of the American Dream?   13 years 29 weeks ago

Give Americans a break, don't send them to war anymore. The Germans flat-out refused to go to Iraq. Remember? We were damn mad when they gave us their "nope". They downright spared their young generations for decades -- educated their youth. While we literally ran our youth into the ground. The Germans don't have that much post-traumatic disorder problems. How can we rebuild our country with so many mentally sick, depressed people?

Depressed people often raise depressed kids. Their marriages often don't function. How can their kids not be demoralized? Where should the motivation come from, to survive the long hours in school, if not from your parents? It's doggoned hard not to feel sleepy in school, if you feel nothing but low. Give your fellow Americans a break. Let them feel like human beings.

I like your idea "being cultural within communities". I made the experience this heals and motivates people.

Seriously, your bogeyman hysteria isn't mature at all. If you're afraid even Obama would send you to Guantanamo, you're reminding me of the little toddler I've been once: crying for I was afraid the water leaving the tub might wash me through the pipe. Well, you don't sound that little, but many of your ideas are childish. Even if you should be over 30: these are not ideas of a grown-up.

Sorry, to me this is no "kidding". I can't accept this extreme Obama bashing. I consider myself more left-wingy than the President. But I can't take this hysteric exaggeration.

    Tom,

Please read All the Shah's Men or listen to alternativeradio.org's taped speech by the author. I'm afraid you're off on the wrong path regarding Iran. It's not a matter of Shiite vs. Sunni. Iran's not provoking us.

They don't want a repeat of the 1950s: in '53-'54, their democratically elected leader, Dr. Mosadegh, with the support of the people, was democratically using British law to regain control of Iranian oil from American/British control. The US overthrew their govt./installed the Shah who allowed foreign use of resources in exchange for a lavish lifestyle and military "advisors." The CIA-trained secret police, SAVAK, were ruthless. Thousands suffered torture and death.

Iran doesn't want a repeat of the '70s when the US defended the Shah against citizen attempts of democracy. Hostage-taking was their non-aggressive response when they saw attempts at another subverting of their removing the Shah. Then the US froze Iranian bank assets here.

Let us have peace on Earth, share correct information; oil is not worth hurting other human beings.

  • Why the German economy is surging   13 years 29 weeks ago

German children are tested early in their school years. Based on the perfomance on the test, they are assigned an academic track or a vocational track. This has lead to world recognized quality. The old saying that you don't want to buy a US auto built on a Monday or Friday, was a direct realization of US citizens that US labor was only marginally capable of quality, while everthing German has always been viewed as quality.

Perhaps paying a BMW or Mercedies factory worker $60/hour for quality is justified, by paying $60/hour for the guy who built my Silverado is questionable, with the exterior trim falling off.

  • Is the Corporate Media acknowledging the death of the American Dream?   13 years 29 weeks ago

Children in poverty is before all the current wealth transfer programs: Welfare, Section *, SNAPS. WIC's, free school lunch and breakfast, subsidized utilities, etc. How much more will be required? According to the US census, the two leading indicators of poverty are single female heads of households and high school dropouts. Perhaps we should look at the problem as being cultural within the communities.
