Sorry Thom is expecting people to cut Obama some slack today. Obama has done next to little to change US foreign policy, which is leading to increased terrorism. I do not support terrorism or attacks in NYC. Neither do I support US state terrorism in the form of drone attacks in Pakistan. Obama made jokes about predator drones against the Jonas Bros. should they have eyes on his daughters. This isn't funny, this evidences the ease with which we make light of the use of force.
Remember Kent State. Remember also Augusta Ga, May 9, 1970 where black students were also gunned down, it gets much less attention.
I once wrote to NPR complaining that they need to stop letting people under 40 years of age from writing stories, 'cause most of them know nothing about spelling or grammar, and their using "spell check" can produce hilarious results.
I was just wondering what would happen if a hurricane came along in the gulf and the oil spill was not cleaned up yet. Would the oil be scooped up by the hurricane and deposited all over the land mass it happened to hit? Just a thought.
I was in 3rd grade in Kent, OH on May 4, 1970 at Wall Elementary school. We were in school that day, but I remember we had our recesses in the hallways that day because the National Guard was using our playground as their local base. It was kind of exciting to us, we didn't feel any sense of the menace that was to come. Hard to conceive today of having armed troops quartered at a school full of small children.
We didn't return to school the next day. Kent was put under marshall law with all activities and meetings cancelled, and a prohibition of any grouping of over 3 people was imposed. I've since read accounts of the events that claim that marshall law was not declared, but that is not the experience of the residents of Kent who definitely had their freedom of assembly revoked.
@Maxrot: Interesting. I think cops put up with a lot of shit, and just didn't want to defend an action against a middle class white guy. The "safety" checkpoints are about profiling. In DeKalb, IL, the State Police set up a couple of checks last year at the I-88 exit to DeKalb. The first occured during NIU's Move In day. Traffic was stopped for about half a mile onto the interstate (real safe, huh?) and the second occurred prior to a Ludicris show. A friend (NIU police) pointed out that the cops didn't bother to stop anybody for a Brooks & Dunn show, but it seemed obvious that the crowd showing up for Ludicris was going to be a bunch of rabble. Rabble = blacks.
My friend Brian put a "Remember Kent State" sticker on the back of his motorcycle. I hope he still does, and I hope my friends, whatever age, will notice or remember.
@Gene, I'm guessing that the cop was reluctant to write an arrest report over it, can't imagine that he wouldn't have been allowed to arrest your friend for the attitude.
Reminds me of a time a buddy of mine and I were drinking a 12 pack of beer at night on a local beach. A police officer approached us and told us to pour the beer we were drinking out. So I did... right down my throat, not out of any act of rebellousness or smart assness, in fact I wasn't really thinking at all (as I said, 12 pack), it was just sorta' an instinct reaction. The police officer, much to my buddy's awe, did nothing and saw us on our way. He still tells the story as though I was some sort of super human smart ass that the cop just couldn't fathom and didn't know what to do with. My guess is he didn't really want to bother, thought it rather funny himself, and wasn't worth the report.
In what is looming as another public relations predicament for Goldman Sachs, the banking giant admitted today that it made "a substantial financial bet against the Gulf of Mexico" one day before the sinking of an oil rig in that body of water.
"One oil rig goes down and we're going to be rolling in dough," Mr. Tourre wrote in one email. "Suck it, fishies and birdies!"
Fasinating Google Search feature I didn't know existed. Do you want to see what people anywhere are saying about any topic?
Go to the Google home page, type in your topic in the search box, then at just below the search box there is a caption WEB +Show Options. Click on the + sign there. On the left side in the second group click on latest. Your search engine starts updating with information about topic as the info comes into Google. Lots of twitter comments from average citizens. Gives an interesting take on what people are saying. Also different sites that are writing on a topic will appear.
Found this while checking into BP oil spill... becoming quickly addicted. Thought I'd share this discovery with all here.

Health care is really important for it wil helps us on how we are going to manage to stay healthy. The Health Care Reform Bill is under attack again. The American Spectator, a conservative political journal, discovered how the Health Care Reform Bill might really be ugly to the American tax payers. Just before they could distribute their findings they were squashed. It seems more and more like we are hearing that many Americans are against this bill. If the people are in opposition to this why would it appear to be getting through? I wonder why the media is so one-sided and only generally shows one side of the debate. You've to search hard to get all aspects of the bill, so if you're researching this bill I wish you luck!
The lady that called in about her Birth Certificate and how it was created by the Department of Commerce and the US Census was onto something. It's like you took the pill and went into the Matrix for real as it's pointed out in this article. This is a GREAT read with all info on who you are to the government.
How did we get to this point? Maybe if Thom can do some research we can get a better understanding or maybe Thom shouldn't explore more because who knows what he'll find and who will try to stop him.

Hawaii = Not in the United States.....(grin)... So the REAL Hawaiian want their back rent!!!!!
My sister was born within one month of Obama in Hawaii, only in a military hospital. Her birth certificate is almost identical (name etc changed)....CERTIFICATE OF LIVE BIRTH
@harry, and lets not forget, he's not in any position of real power now. He'll be lucky to hold onto his seat in the Senate. If he loses that, the only collective memory of McCain will be related to the Palin scourge he helped to bring about.
@gerald, I think the Southern States love the Spill today, because the real consequences have yet to come ashore (so to speak, pun intended). As the crude begins to strangle and choke their coastline, they'll scream bloody murder... at the Democrats in government, they will blame them happily. The good citizens of the region are all too happy to direct their anger at the same people every time an issue comes up. Facts are not relevant, they already have their side chosen, and come hell or high water (pun intended again), they'll always blame the left.
@mstaggerlee, I do not believe that people who disagree with me are fools. I applaud dialogue, rational dialogue. People will believe what they want to believe.
A former supervisor said that people will get what they deserve. If we vote for crooks, we will have a corrupt government.
These southern states seem to love the oil spill. It is my perceptual opinion that they love being surrounded by garbage.
@mstaggerlee, thank you for your thoughts! Since we are a young fart of a nation, we have not experienced what the old farts of nations have endured - France, Germany, Norway, Denmark, etc. A young fart, like the United States of Hell, can learn a great deal from the previous old fart nations. Thom has shared with us what great things these other countries do for their people. In this case lod farts are great models for our hell-hole nation to emulate.
@mstaggerlee, all kidding aside. I believe gerald's heart is in the right place, but I have to agree with you that he seems to believe that vinegar is better than honey when trying to catch flies.
hmmm. 'scuze the previous entry, I didn't proofread it good. :D

Re: Goldman Sachs Reveals it Shorted Gulg
I assume this article is a spoof :)
Goldman Sachs Reveals it Shorted Gulf of Mexico
In what is looming as another public relations predicament for Goldman Sachs, the banking giant admitted today that it made "a substantial financial bet against the Gulf of Mexico" one day before the sinking of an oil rig in that body of water.

My friend, Dave, was interviewed at a "safety" checkpoint in Aurora, Illinois. The officer asked, "where are you coming from?"
Dave answered by pointing his thumb backward and said, "that way."
Next, the officer asked Dave where he was going.
Dave answered by pointing his index finger forward and said, "that way."
The officer said, "seriously."
Dave said, "I am serious."
In some places he could be arrested for "contempt of cop." In this case, he was waved on.

@Maxrot, these are the same people who oppose government until they need government.
